3.5 g of shrooms = # of calories?
    #5523594 - 04/17/06 06:52 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hey does anyone know by chance, how many calories are in 3.5g of dry shrooms? Does it matter by species? Hydro or Outdoor grown? I was just curious since health is all the craze now. I think it would be a funny fact to know. lol.

I don't know the answer, but I do know this is a question better asked elsewhere. The cultivation forum is for cultivation topics.

You all need to hit the bong a little LESS.

wtf @ hydro or outdoor grown, lol
AND, this is not the cultivation forum, but you're right, this doesn't belong here.

Calories would be pretty negligible.  Like in the range of less than a calorie.  First off 3.5g isn't a lot of food material... even 3.5 grams of straight up lard is only 30 calories.

Its going to be relatively similar to any of the edible varieties, as mushies are made up of the same "stuff" for the most part.  If you compare edible mushrooms to one another you'll find they're all pretty similar.  3.5g of white button mushrooms comes to about 0.75 calories.      Going by the US food labeling guidelines you can claim something with that low a percentage of calories as being "calorie free" :-)

Calories can be pretty easily measured with an accurate thermometer and some items you'd have kicking around the house.  You of course would have to burn the 3.5g (and probably more so you're dealing with a larger bulk and get values that are measurable).  I'm all for sticking to educated guesses and not incinerating quantities of otherwise good mushrooms though.

Diet cubes is a good idea, it might even work. Spend 6 hours of tripping time thinking about eating porcessed food, and all the nasty shit thats in fast food. Have any of you ever read Fast Food Nation by Eric Shlossen? it makes Super Size Me look like a childs movie. Fast Food Nation is faced paced and long and it constantly SLAMS the fast food businesses. A good book to read up on before a trip. ill never eat fast food again, let alone any store bought beef thats not free-range.

however much there are, you'll probably burn them up while tripping

Definately. I'd say Magic Mushrooms may actually have negative calories. You spend a good solid 6 hours without eating when your on them.

Would be true, but your talking wet weight... considering approximately 92 percent of a mushrooms mass is water, we're talking more like 7-8 calories per 3.5 grams dried.

you will definitely burn them off and then some, I agree. That doesn't mean they were not there in the first place though... 7-10 calories is almost nothing....
