Poisonous or am I good to go?

Alright, never done shrooms before. I got this last night from a friend of a kid I knew in high school. Been looking up stuff online and apparently the red mushrooms are poisonous. Can't find any pictures though that look like mine, so I have come here to ask the experts.
Am I good to go with eating this? If so you recommend eating the entire thing my first time or what?

Looks like what you've got there is Amanita Muscara, or Fly Agaric. I won't go into a history lesson here, but they have been eaten for ages now. They do possess hallucinogenic qualities, but they also contain many other agents which could prove rather harmful.
I could be wrong in my identification...one can never be 100% sure by just looking at a photograph of a dried up cap, but that looks like a dead ringer for Fly Agaric.
They're perfectly legal here (in the U.S.), so if you decide Amanitas are the way you want to go, you can buy them off of any number of online entheogen shops. Psilocybes are much better, much more potent and much safer than the Amanitas.
But please, do not take my word for it. Do a bit of research and come to the conclusion that this is in fact a Fly Agaric before deciding to go ahead and consume. If you do, however, I wish you a great time!

well i can promise you that's no psilocybe... might be an amanita muscaria although my knowledge lays with in the psilocybe realm and don't have much to go on for amanitas... i can tell you that if it is active its not the same sort of experience as the more commonly used psilocybes that for the most part is what we're all working with on here... its probably likely though considering they're legal and you can even mail order them on the internet.
i'd err on the side of caution if i were you and not eat it at all but those are some good photos and i'm sure somebody else here can give you a more positive ID on it.
amanitas are technically both "good" and "poison" depending on how prepared, ingested and in what quantity. you can bet on some nausea, which can get pretty severe (put probably not so horrible from a single cap). i also know its common to remove the stem which obviously was the case here, as well as scraping out the gills... some only use the red skin and a little of the flesh underneath and not even the whole cap. they are also usually warmed first to induce a chemical reaction that potentiates the effects without the need to ingest more of the possible toxins, but its pretty difficult to know if that was simply air dried or 'warm dried' by looking at it.
i know thats not a really straightforward answer but you might want to head to some resources like erowid.org and read up on amanitas yourself to make an informed decision.

Yes, that is A. Muscaria.
I wouldn't recomend taking A. Muscaria for a first trip.
If I wasn't so tired I'd write more. No matter though, I'm sure someone much more knowledgeable than I can put you up to speed. And as creamcorn said, erowid.org is an excellent recource.
By the way, I'm pretty sure this thread would be better placed in the psychedelic experience forum, up top.

It looks like an amanita cap... which I wouldn't reccomend as a first time trip.
Zoroastrianism was allegedly founded using that same mushroom, and although it has hallucinogenic properties, they're known to cause fairly substantial stomach discomfort and fairly bizarre trips.
I'd put it away in a safe place and get ahold of some cubensis for your first time out.
