Some luck at Home Depot
    #5521955 - 04/16/06 06:03 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Following my normal Saturday routine I stopped by Home Depot to poke around in their garden department for a few minutes. After walking in I immediately noticed that they had received a new shipment of assorted cacti. Immediately one caught my eye and upon inspection I noticed that it had a label. A labeled cactus is unusual at Home Depot.
Needless to say I was very pleased when I saw it.

I quickly purchased it at its $15 price and brought it home to put it in a new pot.

There is a little scarring on them.

Here they are now in the new clay pot sitting securely on my back porch.

Well, that sure made my weekend.

Oh nothing, they only contain the same active drug as peyote and grow 500x faster.

thats about all.

Oh, I did neglect the height.
Well, the taller of them is 1' 2" while the other is some 11 & 1/2" tall.
I plan on growing them for a while. I know there is a huge cacti/succulent nursery in central FL and I would like to check it out sometime. It would be cool to pick up a few different types of cacti and start an all-cacti garden. The emphasis will be on the mesc. containing cacti of course.

I haven't found the time to make the drive yet though.

I have lots of peyote but i dont think eating my babys would be worth getting high.

So i have never tried it. In 10 years when i have a bunch of big grandad clusters i may just pick me a few though.

Or you could just go down to Home Depot and look for it your self, without drawing any attention to the product.

itd be a shame if they took it off the shelves.

It would be a shame, because it would not be a smart business move.

Pachanoi is an excellent cactus for landscaping use. It's very hardy, and it's small spines make it less of a hazard than other cacti.

To stop carrying it would be a real mistake, they're quite popular.

Nice find. A small local nursery, which is family owned caries them in large quantity and size as well... I won't ever have to worry about getting them large and cheap.

Well it is just one month shy of a year since I purchased that San Pedro and I have an updated photo to post. I have an important question that has bugging me for a while though. As you can see in this photo below the shorter of the two cacti in that pot has not grown a single inch since I have had it though the taller cactus has grown significantly. The shorter of the two is significantly lighter green to almost yellow.

So I suppose my question is what is going on here and what can I do? Or should I just cut it off and let swim introduce it to his blender?

I appreciate any responses.

Is it getting light?

May just be lack of nutrients....

Give it a nice healthy spring fertilizer dose (any normal cacti/succulent fert will do) and see what happens.

Fertilizer sounds like a good idea.

Hey, and where is that cacti nursery in central florida?

The website for that succulent dedicated nursery is below.
http://www.floridacactus.com/

I have yet to make it all the way to the place as it is a solid drive from where I live. I tried once on a Saturday only to find they don't hold weekend hours.

I'll have to try again soon, I'd love to add some Peruvian torch cacti to my garden along with some decorative succulents perhaps.

It would be nice to get one or two just for chopping up as well since I know swim that would like to try his hand at a mesc extraction.
It's kind of a shame to cut one of these cacti up though, I'm not sure if I could do it to one that I'd been growing for any length of time.

Anyhow, it has been a while since I've fertilized the cactus but it has had food. It does get direct sunlight from about 11:30am-6pm. What puzzles me is that the taller one seems to be doing great while the other is static.

Has anyone else had this happen to them with more than one pedro in a pot?
