Help! Casing Going Nowhere

Hey! I did my first casing on the 5th of this month beginning with PF cakes, and 60/40 coir/verm. After 3 days, I took a look and saw that some myc had made it's way to the surface, looking very healthy. Yay! So I patched it and put it back for a coupla days. When I looked again, more myc - good. So I patched and put it in FC, and misted it down. That was on the 10th. Since then, nothing has happened. Looks like some tiny amount of myc poking up, but really, next to nothing. There's plenty of FAE (Cool Mist). The thing is, I'm not sure if it's getting too much misting, or not enough. The other thing is, I used this Cambodian strain. One of the cakes looked like it had a little "mean green". Naturally, I didn't put it in with the rest of the cakes in the casing, but I set it aside, cut off the infected part, and waited to see if it would be ok, if the green would come back. It didn't, so I tried to fruit this one cake separately. This thing won't pin either! The myc colonized the cakes pretty rapidly, so I'm not sure what the deal is. I had no problems with B+, so I'm wondering what's happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Well, what are your "climate" conditions like? RH.. Temp.. Lighting?

I've used Cambodian before. They routinely take about a week longer to pin than most other strains I've used (Maz, B+, Plantasia). Hopefully you'll see something soon.

I'm using the same set-up I've used for PF cakes. 66 quart Rubbermaid FC, with perlite and Cool Mist, with RH at around 90%. Temp, 80? to 85?F. 16 hours of light from one of those spiral flourescent grow bulbs. Daily misting with one part 3% peroxide to ten parts spring water, (about 5 or 6 squirts). When I first put it in the FC, I lowered the temp to about 75?F for a few days, then back up to 80?F+

Maybe you all could comment on the water issue? I'm not really clear about how wet the casing should be at this point. How can I tell if it's wet enough / not wet enough? I'm having a hard time figuring out if the 60/40 is "near sturation" by looking at it. Any tips appreciated, TIA!

run a test. make up some more casing then mist it down to near saturation. then you'll be able to pick it up and see what exactly near saturation is. and then look and compair color and texture to your caseing. if you mist too much with that h2o2 in there that could be your problem. it may fight of contams but it also can slow growth.

yeah cut down the peroxide. Try 1 part of 3% solution: 20 parts H20

Well, what does that mean exactly? Is this the same as "field capacity"?

Read my pinning strategy guys thank will answer your questions and more. GL

Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. Ya I got priorities too!!!"

Glad you posted! I am following your pinning strategy. The question is about what "near saturation" means exactly, and how to be able to see or tell when you've achieved that. Maybe you could expand on that? Also, since I'm using a Cool Mist rather than fanning, some adjustment may be neccessary to the approach. For instance, I never had to mist with PF cakes - is it neccessary with a casing? And again, how much? Then there's a question about the strain, and whether that may be a cause of late pinning.

"Near saturation" is explained in the strategy other than that I'm not sure what to tell you? Multiple light indirect mistings until your casing just begins to "glisten" then stop. I mist upwards letting the mist fall onto the casing, look at the pics of near saturation to see what glistening looks like, other than that you'll have to get your own feel for this water delivery remembering mushrooms thrive in moisture.
