ok so i germinated some mj seeds indoors.. then once they had started to sprout decided to put them outside.. heres where everything gets iffy
the ground was pretty wet.. like almost a mud.. so like.. i planted them just under a thin layer of mud.. its been sunny the past 2 days.. about 70 degrees.. were supposed to get some rain tonight.. then sunny for the next 3 days with temps between 64-72 (highs).. what can i do to help their chance of survival.. and do u think they will even make it?
thanks

That kind of soil doesn't sound too good. It seems like (IMO) they have to be in well draining soil, at least until they grow a bit and develop strong enough roots to handle both flooding or being very dry. I've had seedlings die in the past from both having too much water, or not enough. It seems like once they reach a certain point, they can survive on their own in the hottest and most dry climates.. and can also deal with muddy soil.
I don't know if there is anything you can do with them if they are already in the ground. I have had success putting a little of my own soil into the environment, just to help them become established.. then they seem to do ok with the natural dirt as the roots grow stronger.

pick up some coiled energy saver bulbs and start them indoors. they may be small bulbs, but in two or three weeks of veg they will be good for the outdoors! and since its just a house bulb, a basic little box setup would work fine... hmmm kinda like this one http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4634032/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1

I'm on the east coast actually, just south of the philly area. I think you might have got the idea I was from ohio in the talks about gatherings or something. I'm just going to try and make it to one of the gatherings, but it will still be a long trip for me. I have had a few outdoor grows, but it was a long time ago. Probably more than 5 years. The kind of soil that I had them in was very rocky, dry, and light reddish brown.. clay type soil. The only reason for this was the area had lots of sun and was remote and the plants could blend in well. I started them off with some well draining potting soil, mixed with peat and lots of sand to keep it from clumping up together and helping it drain better. They reached about 8-9 feet.. since there was so much sun, but the budding wasn't quite as dense and thick as it could have been. Still though since it was in such a dry environment, the plant had to produce more resin probably to keep the buds alive. This seemed to lead to some strong stuff.

i was just thinking the same thing.. but then i thought.. the water would still get into the ground.. and flood them.. but i was thinking about nailing down some pieces of tarp over each plant

Also, if indoors isn't an option try potting them in sturdy pots, that won't blow over, outside. With good soil, possibly mixed with perilite. Dig wide around the plants so as not to damage the roots.

yeah im not too concerned with these. like i planted them knowing that they had a 50/50 chance of surviving.. like once i get some better seeds im def going to do my best to insure that they live
hell i dug the holes for these seeds with a butter knife.. lol.. just kinda found seeds in my room and said.. wtf.. why not

Cool, they may survive. If they make the next week or two they'll have a good chance. Maybe something dry like saw dust around the base of the plant my absorb excess moisture whilst retaining moisture during dry periods. Never tried this, just a thought. But maybe a cheap n easy solution to your problems.

cut the bottom off a 2 liter bottle, and stick it down 2 inches deep around your plants. unscrew the cap for air but leave it on top to block the rain.

could i punch holes in the side of the 2 liter bottle to let air in.. instead of having to deal with taking the cap on and off>? that way i can also regulate the water amount 100%
