I was attempting to use perlite for humidity on my casings, and I am brand new to casings. I am also brand new to perlite, and was having trouble with the perlite. I am told its not really needed. once they are in the terrarium, do i need any outside humidity at all or can i just rely on the casings layers to do what is needed with occasional misting? if so, is that the best method? and roughly how much misting would typically be needed? (1-2 a day, every coupla days?) can i use the perlite for better results and/or less misting? i am coming from being pretty succesful with cakes (w/ dunking and fish bubbler and hand spraying) and even some cakes with hand spraying only in a small tupperware. my climate is also quite dry here, enough that i can hang my shrooms out to dry with no detrimental effect. I have moved some cakes in to the perlite because my casings arent ready to go in yet, and the perlite is damp and not putting out any humidity, and i got the excess water out. if anyone can help me out with this perlite thing, that would be great, theres no real information that i can find that im doing anything differant than what it says but im getting no humidity with perlite!

if you perlite is wet and your fc has a lid your getting rh. if you dont' fan you'll be up at 99% rh over a day. the only time i wouldnt' use perlite for casing is if those casing take up the full bottom of my fc and there wasn't too much room before the lid. i use perlite beucase that way i can fan way more and not have to worry about droping my rh too much. for you id toss in that bubbler to get some FAE. keep that perlite wet and you'll have plenty of rh. why don't you think you have much humidity?

A sealed up terrarium with 2" of damp perlite with no standing water will have 99% humidity. If your hygrometer does not read 99%, calibrate it.
However, for cased bulk substrates, no extra humidity is required if you're using a terrarium type setup. RR
