Pressure Cooker Question

I just bought a mirro 4 qt. pressure cooker from walmart for $20, figured I needed it and it was pretty cheap. The only problem I see happening with this is, well besides being extremely small, is that it only goes to 10 psi. This is my first pressure cooker and this will be my first grow. So my question is would I just cook the jars for a longer time since it's only run at 10 psi and not the reccomended 15 psi? I'm gonna be using brf/verm pint size jars.

I wouldn't run the rist. I'd get one that does 15 PSI and holds more jars. I've never had a contam problem and they're only like $70. But, if you're doing the PF tek you could get away with it maybe considering you don't even technically need a pressure cooker. It will just save you from a few contams you'd probably get otherwise.

hey, while i was doing brf cakes, a regular pot with 1.5" or so of water did great. 1/50 jars contaminated i believe. The only reason you wud need a pc is for agar work (not sure y....anyone?) or grain (cuz pressure is required to kill endospores that are present inside the grain.) yours will do great if yur jus messin with cakes....if you want to do a bulk grow ever (grain)...i would keep an eye out 4 ebay for an all american pressure cooker (used for 35 - 98$) or mycosupply.com sells a 7 pint/4 quart model for $149.99. lol...i went on a rant (smokin a few bowls ...hope i helped (for once instead of the other way around.

I also bought one of those, I build up slow pressure by puting it on med high and when the knob on top starts jiggling and letting out some steam, turn it down on low and let a little steam out, not to much tho just enough to settle the jiggle of the knob, then turn it down to a low temp for 15-20 mins, worked great for me, I've got 6 qt jars and 14 half pint jars and 3 pint jars going this way they are all working great.

2 runs with an AA 941
AA's are relatively expensive. The old proverb that: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR........ HOLDS TRUE

I plan on upgrading at sometime, like I said this is only gonna be my first grow so I plan on starting at square one with cakes. I assumed that a pressure cooker that runs at a lower psi would still be more efficient than a covered pot of boiling water. Of course, money always plays a factor. Thanks for the help.
