Holy moly, how much are you paying for rye berries at Whole Foods? Is it is like it is in New York, ~$10/LB? Too much to experiment.

If it's treated it will say on the package someplace.

Surprised Whole Foods Market carries Rye. If the one in your region does it shouldn't be no more than $2 a pound. Use wheat berries they work fine, or millet. Whole Foods doesn't treat any thing they sell. It's a company policy. Hence Natural Food Store! But, they are a little expensive.
These super wide posts are fucking ridiculous

Awesome... glad to hear they prolly arnt treated (makes sense, seems very anti whole foods to have a treated product. Going to wait another 4-5 days before i give up... have a couple jars ready of mixed substrate (millet + br + flax + quinoa) that i will try out... and if all else failes, time to give WBS a go! I will also have to try that Wild Oats brand. Thanks for the input!

i had success(kind of) with Whole Foods' rye berries. and it was only like 19cents a lb if i remember correctly. the mycellium was kicking ass, about 80% done, then bam. trich. but i think there was water pooled inbetween the tyvek and the lid, so yeah.

If it is for human consumption? It is not treated with fungicide.
How long has it been since innoc & with what? How did you prep the grain, jars & lids?

I use Whole Food Rye all the time. It isn't cheap at .69 a pound but not terrible either. It colonizes just fine. It is marked organic in the bin at the store near me. ENJOY

That's pretty funny $10 a llb, what are you smokin? 80 cent's a llb in chicago, i wish finding jars was as easy as going to whole foods.

Same here. Sometimes I accidentally write the wrong number on the twist-tie and the price gets even cheaper

Just picked up some Rye Berries from Whole Foods for $.69 a pound and had the same question, although I was pretty sure that since it was from Whole Foods and was edible that it would be ok.

FooMans a naughty boy... I get rye at Jimbo’s; they give you an extra 10% off if you buy 25#'s at a time. It’s probably the same supplier and works great.
