noobs beware teh mycokit

I am a noob to the shroom world. I wanted to begin cultivating shrooms rather than hunt for them, as it is tons safer and in the long run, requires a lot less effort IMO. Being the lazy guy that I am, I decided to check out hightime's recommended site, mushbox. The mycodome did look pretty sweet, although small, but i was pretty much only looking to grow for personal use as well as for a couple friends. Anyway it was a little too pricey, so i ran a google search for "mycokits". Well one of the first results returned the aptly named "mycokit" made by universityscientific.com. 99$ and guaranteed to work. Pre-sterilized substrate jars, casing mix, climate controlled green house. Seemed pretty sweet to me. I ordered it, and on the same day ordered 1 b+ syringe from sporebank.com. A week later, my spore syringe came in the mail, but no mycokit. a week after that, still no kit. I logged on to the FAQ on their website, where they state "we can not guarantee same day shipping". To me this is misleading, as it implies it will be shipped around the day of order processing. maybe i see it wrong. They sure debited the money out of my account quick, but it took a total of two months to recieve the package.
Sweet. So it's finally here. I clean off a surface, sterilize the area, wash my hands, flame the tip of syringe and proceed to inoculate the jars. Post inoculation, i noticed what i thought was growth on the bottom and lower sides of all four jars. "naw, probably just part of the substrate", i figured. WRONG. 11 days after inoculation, no sign of mycelium, but the stuff on the bottom of the "jars" (theyre actually small plastic tupperwares), has gotten darker and has definately grown. It started off as light, sandy brown, but is now almost completely gray. I am almost positive I was sold pre-contaminated substrate, despite the sterilization guarantee.
And there is no way to get ahold of this company. They do not respond to emails, or their crappy "open a customer service support ticket" option, and their contact phone number goes directly to some recording that asks you to leave a message or send a fax. I haven't sent any faxes, but i've left several messages, begging them to return my call. they havent.
In the end, Ill chalk it up to making a noob mistake by trusting some shady company over the internet. I'm out 99$, but i fully intend to make sure it wasn't worth it to the company.

I've heard nothing but bad things about universityscientific.com . If you would have tried google to find out some information on growing magic mushrooms, You would of found this site. With a little reading you would have found a list of reputable vendors and a lot of support from the members here.
Sorry about your luck man. Read though the FAQ here and you will see a kit is unnecessary.
(message is obviously to cannabisfun)

I wish i would have thought to look here. But at the time i ordered it, the only thing i had ever heard about the shroomery, was my IRL friend telling me he witnessed some kid intentionally OD on pills or something on a webcam, and a bunch of dumbasses cheering him on got arrested. Still, after knowing about this site, i still cant seem to find any sort of list of vendors, but perhaps im not looking in the right places

Wow... I wish I would have done the same... It has almost been a month since my order was placed. They say that my package is on its way but the tracking # they gave me says it was just a notice to the post office that they have a package to ship. (Its been like that for a couple of days) (If) When I get my package I will post my results. -Me
*EDIT* Kit came today Yippie I will post results as I get them!

Also, an awesome thing: all the banner ads on this site; you can trust them. They are just the shroomery sponsors who will happily help you out. Sorry you got raped by that other site. Good luck!
