humidification problems
    #5518258 - 04/15/06 08:23 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

i purchased those containers from magicmushrooms.org. by the way, very conveniant. basicly its a small container that you just open, and the shroooms grow. for the humidity i constructed the following set up: one small aquarium filled with water and with a small heater to keep the water around 25*C. another small aquarium directly above the previous one, the one on bottom has the water, the one on top has the cake. so the water heats up and humidifies the container. it seems to work because the inside of the top container is somewhat wet. not enough to make droplets. but the cake seems to be way dry. the cakes even have perlite in them. what to do? the mm.org site suggests putting water but i tried that previously and it completly contaminated my case. should i try first sterilizing the water by boiling it then pouring it in the case? is water bad? how would i put the water in the case? misting? help

It is hard to understand how you are set up from your post. It seems like you have your cakes in the sort of set up that people generally use for incubation. The easiest way to humidify a fc is to put a layer of wet perlite on the bottom. Putting perlite in a cake is not going to help humidify the fruiting chamber. If it does, it will do so by taking the water out of your cake and putting it into the air, and you don't want that to happen.
