damn dude, don't have a toolgasm

I thought the song wasn't half bad, but it always depends on what is before, and what follows (unless its a first or last song on the album hehe).  Tool has been one of those bands that I have to listen to the entire album in order to give a real opinion.

I can see why people think tool is mediocre, but the more I listen to them, the less obvious and more talented they become.  they may not be the most talented (save their drummer) but their are artists.  they have a craft and work well with it.

my favorite song by tool was and still is merkaba.  its not on any of their offcial albums, but its an 8-10 min instrumental which would blow anyone's doors open, expecially if you're tripping.

their lyrics aren't slouching either

--------------------
Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Ya, this new song isn't really blowing me away. As an album opener it's not up there with Stinkfist or The Grudge now is it?

Still, seeing them live on June 11th in a wee venue so that should roxxorz anyones boxXors.

I get it. He's talking about society's obsession with violence and whatnot. I just think they could have done something better.

If you think the totality of the grateful dead archive is all "sugar magnolias and sunshine daydreams" then you havent paid any attention to the band whatsoever.

Of course I was overgeneralizing about the Grateful Dead, just as he was about Tool.  I'm only being as fair to his favorite band as he is to mine(actually more so, since I used actual GD lyrics).

add to that, the unified nature of all things, spiritual awakenment, the simple joys of life and love, mythology, folk talkes, and maybe you'll have a fraction of what the subject matter the dead envoked. Dont even get me started about all the subjective meanings and messages sent through the acuall music. anyway...

I've seen how there are many member of the shroomery who are totally gaga over tool. I never got into them and i didnt see what was so special about their sound but, i'm whiling to learn.
Whats the best tool album/ the best album a tool noob could appreciate? I want to give them a fair shot before i write them off as music that doesnt appeal to me.

So is this track fake or what?It was mentioned in this thread.

If it turns out to be real then thats cool. Its an ok song.I hope the rest of the tracks will be better.

The production sucks.I was told that they produced it themselves this time.Unlike the other albums.

All in all its a good song, but after a few listens im through with it.

I am still just as excited about the new album as i was before I heard this though

They usually have really good lyrics and sometimes just hypnotizing songs. Songs that make me go into like a deep thinking mode. IMO atleast.
