OK. I have read many posts about people saying you need to soak and simmer your wbs. I have also heard a soak until fully hydrated works, but i have also read you can add a set amount of water straight to your wbs (in my case straight millet) and PC.

How many people hear do not soak or simmer and just add water and PC? I know soaking germinates endospores, but if some people just add water with good success it has to work right.

For the people that do just add water, is your con-tam rate higher than if you pre soak?

Also if i was going to just add water like you would do in jars, would the same method work in bags? Will the substrate be evenly hydrated?

I'm sure you would just mix up the bag when its done PCing but i want to make sure.

Thanks

I used to just add water and pc when I started using birdseed, and it's a real pain in the ass. You end up with one big clump of birdseed thats stuck together and you really have to shake hard to break it up. It doesn't really bring on any increased contamination, but its a serious pain to break up. In a bag it might not be so bad because you can break it up with your hands, but still... when you simmer or soak you can get the grain to full hydration. With just adding water and dry birdseed, you have to guess how much it can take and then put in a bit less to make sure it isn't over watered.
