bacterial infection?
    #5517761 - 04/15/06 12:52 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

some of my mushrooms look as if they have rotted through in some spots... little spots that are dark and in most cases have holes going all the way through the "infected" spot on the cap... are these safe to eat?

i thought that it could be caused by too much moisture but i really have no clue....

if anyone wants to see pictures i could take some... but i dont think it is necessary.

Most likely from the description, it's bacteria. Either dry the mushrooms fully or boil into tea. Either one will kill off the live bacteria.

Bacteria is in the air all around us and our projects. Give it a place to grow and some excess moisture, and it will bloom. There isn't any cure at this point, but it's no problem really. Just don't eat them raw if you suspect anything might be wrong. As said, drying or boiling will kill the live bacteria that cause food poisoning.
