Well I have knocked up 3 pint jars for my first time 1. haw ,1 AC and 1 GT and they are nearly complete I say by Wednesday they will be 100% done, I plan on using the casing 101 tek but using 50/50 peat moss and vermiculite, I plan on using a single 66qt tub with little foil baking pans, should I use perlite for humidification or is there no need since I'm using a casing layer? I have read teks on how much to put but This is my first time so im not sure what to look for, I have also been reading that alot of hygrometer's suck, So if someone could help me out that would be great.

Unless your casings cover pretty much the entire bottom of the tub your going to need to use perlite humidification.
I don't use hygrometers I just judge my humidity based on the moisture build up on the sides of the FC. If you run your finger accost the wall and it's like DRY then it's too low. If it's dripping with water then it's too high. If you run your finger along the wall and just pick up a little wetness then it's about perfect.

I would suggest using straight vermic. for your casing if it's your first casing. Peat has a tendency to contam. rather easily. And as far as hygrometers, do a salt teat with the thing to gauge its rh accuracy. The $20 variety at Home Dump work pretty well. GL.

well I?m heading to get the verm. now, thnx for the info and I'll keep you guys updated, The peat moss is actually jiffy mix, I got it cause it said it had lime added for perfect ph balance but I'll take your word for it. I read the salt tek last night and plan on getting one.

hello again, I just purchased one of those crappy as acu-right weather station things, anyway I let it set all night in a Rubbermaid container with a pop top in it with some salt and a drip of water, it's raised like 2% and that?s it, anything anyone would suggest on calibrating this thing?

are you sure your using it right, sometimes hygrometers have wires with nodes on the end and those are for testing liquid temperature, the actual hygrometer has to be in the rubbermaid and it should read 75%

well I have got my humidity under control I think, I found a decent meter that read 75% when doing the salt test. I'm at my fruiting stage and just put my casings in the perlite tub, Do I let it set in the dark for a few days or should I go ahead and start giving it light 12 on 12 off? thnx

fyi, condensation on the sides is only a gauge on the temp difference inside your fc compared to the rest of your house. condensation is in no way a sign that your humidity is high enough.
hygrometers for the win.
**a lack of condensation is not a sign that your humdiity is low either. i have barely any condensation and my RH is 95%

when you put them in the fc you can start giving them 12/12 light. theres no need to let them sit in the dark. show those shroomies which way to grow!

i actually put mine in to early i think... i saw myc poking through in 2 spots so i put it in my fc. but i think the RH is to high... Its just one casing and i have an rh of 90% what should optimal rh be for casings?

just remember you want your casing moist not soaked, and no standing water.

well I came up with an idea for standing water to drain, I cut a tin foil pan in half and slid them in together, But they have been in the fc for about a week, and the Acadian coast has to be my fav. study so far, quick myc. growth, Thnx for all your help fellas I really appreciate it, I came here and read every tek for 6 months without making a post and I’m glad that I can share this pic with you showing good results, None of this would not have been possible with out the shroomery! Do you think these guys on the left should be picked? I don’t want spores falling.. and they seem to have broke from there veil.

i pick my fruits as soon as the veil breaks. that is just because dealing with the spore mess is not worth the extra 1 gram per flush that will be gained by letting the fully mature.
**edit** btw clever idea on draining any standing water.
