Listen up you bookworms, the cultivating book of our time has arrived!

Update 04/23/2006: I apologize for the further delays in getting this book review up. I just realized that my tattoo artist has my book. I will pick this up later in the week and complete my review. While I have read the book, I do need it to make some specific references. Stay tuned.
Alright you hard chargers, the book we've been waiting for is here. The book I'm speaking of is Psilocybin Mushroom Handbook: Easy Indoor & Outdoor Cultivation.

Here is what you will find inside:
209 Pages
Chapter 1: A brief history of psilocybin mushroom cultivation
Chapter 2: The biology of mushrooms
Chapter 3: Psilocybe; The species (tons of color photos)
Chapter 4: Sterile culture technique
Chapter 5: Equipment and supplies
Chapter 6: PF Tek improved
Chapter 7: Working with Agar
Chapter 8: Working with grain
Chapter 9: Fruiting containers
Chapter 10: Casing soil
Chapter 11: Fruiting and harvesting
Chapter 12: After the harvest
Chapter 13: Outdoor cultivation
Chapter 14: The chemistry of psilocybe mushrooms
Chapter 15: The psilocybe mushroom experience
Chapter 16: Conclusion; Where to go from here
Appendices:
A: Quick reference for substrate and casing recipes B: Glove box and flow hood plans C: Resources (Yes, the Shroomery is one of them) D: Glossary
I just got this book in today and will be spending my weekend reading and reviewing it. I will try and get a book review in by the end of the weekend. Now this book is not as comprehensive as The Mushroom Cultivator, but it is an awesome addition to anyone's library and is 100% dedicated to what we love. If you are a newbie, this book is a must have.
Please support the Shroomery by using the link provided for your purchase. Thank you and happy reading.

Just so everyone knows.....
Amazon isn't stocked with these books yet, and there will likely be a 5-9 day wait before they even ship. No biggie in my opinion, but thought everyone should realize patience will be involved.

Yes, this is true to a point.
But whenever I order from Amazon, I grab a few things in order to get the free S/H (You have to spend like 25 bucks to be eligible). If one of the books is unavailable, it stalls all the others. Of course you CAN opt to send at different times, but goodbye free S/H.
Shouldn't be a problem in most cases. Just don't try to rush a birthday gift with the order.

just wonderin if the book has liquid inoculation information and variations thereof, i.e create liquid innoculant from grain, or liquid innoculant from a liquid master...
BTW how long could a liquid culture remain viable in the fridge without any air exchange whatsoever?

Sorry for the tardy review. I've been swamped with work lately and haven't had a chance to put anything down on paper just yet. I'll try and get this done by the end of this weekend, I promise.
Initial thoughts, this book is for the beginner and intermediate cultivator. Good coverage on agar and cloning. Doesn't cover any bulk recipes or bulk cultivation methods and specifically states that it doesn't. Probably trying to avoid too much attention. Anyway, the review is coming.

Truthfully, if you can traverse the shroomery's search engine then there really isn't much point in buying this book. Compared to Stamets "practicle guide to growing mushrooms at home" this book reads at an elementary level. I found myself disagreeing with a few techniques due to the over smplification they use to describe them. (ex: book suggest a pure vermiculite casing; I'm a 50/50 man).
If you don't know jack squat about mycology, then yeah, sure, pick this bad boy up. It has plenty of color-photoed step-by-step instructions for things such as grain inoculation, spawn bag management, agar, cloning, grain-grain transfers, ect.... It talks briefly on bulk, but doesn't supply the steps past spawning.
Overall, its a handy little thing. Especially if you have never grown before. If you know your stuff, don't buy it.
Took me less than a day's free time to read.

I agree, this is for beginners. Maybe a bit of insight for p. azurescens but that's it. Nothing new here and certainly nothing I didn't already know just from looking around here.

I have it. It is good, except I think it lacks the necessary details in the grain section. I used the wheat berries like they recomend, and they were much too dry after PCing. They also didn't say anything about shaking the jars while they were still hot to evenly disperse the water. Also, no liquid tek in here.

I just received mine today and think it is great. It has more details and information about cultivation and has more pictures then some of the older books I got. It is definitely a must have for a newbie like myself, and many others. It even contains links to some better shroom websites.

As a true beginner, (which I can prove this being my first post) I recently purchased this book. I'm a bit confused about the improved pk tek. I don't see how "messy tubs of casing" can be all that difficult, but I might just try it out and learn what works best and what to discard. I thought it was a fairly decent read. (nothing comparable to stamets of course)

I got my copy yesterday, I wish I had this when starting a month ago. I spent more than a few hours online searching for info. This book is not a "cure all" "be all" but it will work for anyone just getting started, and will save a newb like me a lot of research time.
P.S. If you are a newb, I recomend reading it cover to cover as you will pick up little things along the way that will help you if problems arise in you cultivating experiences. I learned a lot of things about shrooms in general I had no idea about. It is just interesting as well to learn new things.

I just picked it up not three hours ago. It has a lot of excellent material on traditional cultivation methods (agar, grain spawn) and some interesting stuff on outdoor cultivation of wood-lovers (P. Azurescens anybody?)
However I think its material on the "fool-proof" methods which are so common on the internet is somewhat lacking. In fact, all they provide is an "Improved PF Tek", which is just the PF Tek except that when fruiting you leave the cakes in jars to make them more perfectly formed. Though they will grow straight if you do this and you'd be less likely to get the bizarre-o "fat-asses" common in cake methods, it'd also diminish yields would it not? Well I'm just speculating . . . I haven't even done my first grow yet.
Also its info on agar and grain spawn techniques is excellent, and a lot more extensive than information on similar topics here at the shroomery.
The colored photos are very nice too. I'd definately reccommend it to a new grower. In fact I'm considering bypassing cakes altogether and starting with grain spawn; I didn't buy a pressure canner for nothing :-P

I thought the following would amuse:
Authors=L. G Nicholas, Kerry Ogame
That is,
Kerry Ogame=Karogamy: The fusion of nuclei or nuclear material that occurs during sexual reproduction, i.e., one of the stages of development by which sexual spores are produced.
L. G Nicholas=Lignicolous: Growing in wood or on a substratum of woody tissue.
So very clever!
