So my pins got pretty big and fat... and now some of them have cracked caps.. whys is this? and how bad is it? what causes it.. i would guess drying out... but RH is in a good range and the casing is very moist.

Low RH is the usual suspect for cracked caps.

Cracked caps are caused by drying out and you can tell by looking that the cap is dry. Split caps are caused by very rapid growth, and still look nice and fresh, except for the split. RR

If your caps are splitting before opening almost horizontal (mature) then you have some serious humidity problems. Humidity Gauges aren't always accurate. I don't even use one. It doesn't take much practice before you get a "feel" for what the mushrooms like.
Low humidity usually seems to stunt my mushrooms growth a bit. I like to just mist the inside walls of my FCs to help boost Rh. But I remember RR saying wax paper can also be used for placing over your mushrooms to keep the caps from splitting if your having humidity problems. (yay wax paper)

Those are split caps, not cracked caps. Being too dry causes cracked caps, but not the above. With cracked caps, the mushroom will look like the back of a dinosaur or horned toad. RR
