I am going to start growing in the next week or so when my spores arrive. I have figured pretty much everything I think I need to know, I hope, exept for information on how to build a glove box and if it is extremely necessary to do so. Any help is appreciated, or if you know of any other posts on this topic that would also be helpful thanks

Right in the boxes section of the archives http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4359637/an/0/page/0
with this box you don't use any gloves. You just need to wash your hands very well. The point of the box is just to still the air..whice this one does.

ok now that I have researched the glove box, I have one more question. How much of the work do I do in the box? I am doing the brown rice and vermiculite cakes. Do I mix the stuff in there, fil the jars and inoculate in there, or do I only inoculate in there. Sorry if this is a dumb question but thanks for the help.

You need to understand where contamination comes from.
Mold spores are floating around everywhere...Your breathing them in and out all the time. As well as bacteria and other germs. The reason you sterilize your jars by IDEALLY pressure cooking them for an hour is so that the jar and everything inside of it is essentially DEAD, sterile, no living spores no living bacteria. This provides the perfect environment for your mushroom spores to germinate and colonize the entire substrate.
So with that said. You mix your BRF and Verm and load your jars in the open air. Lots of spores are getting into the mix...but that's okay because by the time your done sterilizing them all that heat will kill them. The dry verm on top and lid combo will prevent any new spores from entering the jars.
The spore solution inside of your syringe your injecting into the cakes MUST be free from any kind of unwanted spores. It must only contain water and mushroom spores. SO if you have a clean syringe. You can inoculate the cakes open air just fine. As long as you limit the exposer of your needle to the open air. To do this soak some paper towel in rubbing alcohol and wrap it around the needle at all times except the split second you stab the needle into the cake and remove it. Then wrap the paper towel around it again.
The glove box is needed mainly for the beginner when starting with a spore print. You must get the spores off the print card into a syringe without allowing any other kind of spore from getting into the syringe. SO when you make your own syringes you need to use the glove box.
Grain to grain transfers also require the use of a box. I would consider Grain to grain an advanced beginner's tek LOL. It's really not that hard but can be screwed up if you don't understand the concept. SO here is some more reading for you.

Of course the same technique can be done with the added protection of the glove box. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5276177#Post5276177
Phewww...that was longer then I expected
