Fruiting Chamber humidity questions

Well, so far so good. My cakes have no contams and I've placed them in the chamer. My setup includes a perlite layer with my cakes rolled in vermiculite. I'm just wondering how you can tell the humidity is right in the chamber since I have no hydrogemeter. Should there be condensation on the sides? Because they're on their second day and I haven't seen any.
I've occassionally spritzed the vermiculite on top of the cakes, but my spray bottle doesn't really mist, it's more of a squirt gun, so i'm afraid to spray them too much.
Anyway, are there any suggestions on how to keep the humidity up in the chamber if it isn't high enough?

Your humidity sounds fine, if you have condensation on the walls then your humidity is fine.
Don't sprikle any more verm on it, no need to spray.. just wait and keep your fresh air exchange high.
Good luck. -Cray

like Cray said, don't spray the cake directly. How much water do you have inside the perlite? Perlite chambers can take a few days to fully humidify, plus they loose Rh every time you open the lid. Consider the addition of an air-pump and stone into your setup. You can raise the Rh almost immediately by spraying the walls of the chamber.

My perlite is pretty soaked. I didn't mean to put that much water in it, but it just sort of happened. Should I scoop it out and put some dry perlite in there?

When I did cakes, I would stack a good half inch of moist verm on top of the cakes. This took the place of rolling and fed them H2O. I'd then wet it whenever it dried out.
Not sure about checking your humidity, but if you feel its low this is a good way to assure your cakes are recieve ample water.
Also, I'd have WAY better flushes than those rolled all over.... might just be me though.

Yeah, that's kind of the setup I have now, with a thick layer of verm on top of the cakes, but rolled on the sides as well. How often did you water the verm and how did you know when it was dry? Just curious.

Try adding a 1 inch dry layer of perlite on top. Or just wait, it will humidify.

First of all, perlite works by evaporating water from its surface. Perlite wil have ZERO effect if there's standing water. Always drain the perlite fully before dumping into the FC.
Second, Dry perlite will have ZERO effect on your humidity, except perhaps to lower it.
Third, condensation on the walls has nothing to do with humidity. Condensation indicates a temperature differential between inside and outside the terrarium. Your windows get condensation in your house on the inside where it's dry and warm. Your can of beer or glass of iced tea gets condensation on the outside where it's exposed to warm air. The same principle exists in your terrarium. Drained perlite will deliver 99% humidity in a terrarium and if there's no difference in temperature with outside the terrarium, there will be no condensation on the walls. RR
