how would adding like 2 tablespoons of karo to my 24hour dunking water work? would it replenish lost energy slightly?

i think the problem would be when you take it out of the dunk spores will stick on and they just need that one tiny spot to get a foodhold and youre effed. i think a better idea would be to inject some honey or karo water in. myabe 1 cc in 5 places. im not sure how this would work but id say its less likely to contam since no spores will be getting to this new food before your slow moving myc does.

well assuming it doesn't get contamined during the dunk....shouldn't most of it get absorbed into the cake? therefor no need to worry about contame after the dunking period?

Well although I'm really not quite sure about this theory, or rather hypothesis of yours, I was under the impression, and always have been, that when you dunk your dunking FULLY colonized cakes. This said, (again under the impression) the colonized cakes tend to resist most all contams due to the fact that the mycelium is just to much of a barrier at that point. however this is doesn't apply to casing (obviously). Then again maybe it was only the water contams that the cakes are resistant to, but then wouldn't that dash most of the theories in the FAQ's about dunking?

it is most resistant to contams beucase it is 100% colonized substrate. when you drunk in water that has nutes in it its like licking a loppy pop and dropping it in the dirt. see normally if a spore lands on your cake you fine beucase there is nowhere for it to germinate and get a foodhold growing on the cake. you your cake is taken out of nutrient rich water adn stuck in house air with spores floating around spores will land and be able to feed off of nutes now on the surface. maybe if you rinced the cake after the dunk? run clean water over the surface to get all that nutrient water off the nutrient water inside should be ok beucase spores arn't landing there. or like i said before mayeb inject this nutrient water into the cake rather then soaking it in. seems safer.

I dunno man. If i were you, I would take just one cake by itself and try it. put it in a seperate fruiting chamber by itself and see if that works. to me, the chances of cantams attacking the cake is pretty high, but if it does work with no problem, then u just my have something unique! good luck!

Mykey said: Dunking is for the sole purpose of hydrating the cake after it has been in incubation,or between flushes. If you prepared the substrate per the pf tek there is plenty of nutrients inside the cake for sustaining healthy fruiting. If you are really interested in cultivating your mushies with a nutrient boost you should look into using horse or cow poo and straw to spawn your cakes into. It really isnt that hard to do and there are many good teks to read up on. Using these methods should greatly increase your yields and fruit size when used in conjunction with a casing layer.
From an earlier post on the same subject. Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
