Best Materials to Spawn WBS To?

I'm planning a Ecuador -> LC -> WBS grow as soon as the syringe arrives and I've seen many different spawn-to materials.
I was wondering if the experienced regulars here might help me out in this thread by adding every spawn material/mix that they have ever personally used along with a rating from 1-10 (1 being worst, 10 being best) on how productive that material/mix is.
For example, something like "peat, lime: 5" or "hpoo, straw: 8."
I ask this because some of us don't have access to certain things. For example, I can't get hpoo so that's out for me. Some people might not have access to a ph meter or strips, so anything with lime might be dicey for them.
After many people have chipped into this thread, it can be referenced by anyone doing WBS to evaluate the best spawn materials that they can gather.

C'mon, vets. Let us know -- for posterity -- what mediums you like to spawn to and rank them on how effective you find them.
Right now I can name about a dozen but aside from hpoo being king, I couldn't even begin to tell you which is better than which...

You should really read up a bit more on bulk...
there are really only three main types of bulk subs ive seen spawned to successfully/economically.
1st is mushroom compost, you pretty much either gotta find some online or make it yourself, if you see any in a store there is a 99% chance its no good.
2nd is good ole poo. I couldn't imagine how one would not have access to this sub considering there would be stables near a major city or you could buy some from a place like tenn stud, which is fairly inexpensive considering the yield per pound of poo.
3rd is straw, ive never personally done straw but i hear its the one hit wander of bulk, as in you get 1 good flush and that's about it...however this can possibly be picked up at a craft store so it would be more accessibly to some than others.
The reason you may have mistaken hpoo as being king is that its by far the easiest to work with and gets great yields. Most of us don't have time to compost our own and its better/easier to work with than straw. Hope this helps.

rygo, you might have just done me a huge favor.
Someone said that compost sucked though they may have specifically said store-bought and I just assumed in general. When I called some local places today for hpoo, the only places I could find only had it wet, not dried.
However the person mentioned that there was a free community compost pile VERY nearby. I discarded the idea because my (incorrect) understanding was that compost wasn't good.
So I'll check out this free compost. Thanks!!

You need to get a very specific type of compost to grow on though. From the sounds of things this compost pile is garden compost, which probably won't be any good for mushrooms...it's like overly composted hpoo, it won't work. However, I don't see any reason not to experiment with it because i don't know what it is, I just wouldnt go all in on something you're not sure is gonna work.
