Suppose that you had never read any religious or psychological book, and that you had to find the meaning, the signification of life. How would you go about it? Suppose that there were no masters, no organized religion, nor any Buddha or Christ, and that you had to start from the beginning. How would you do it?

Well if there was no previous knowledge for you to go on you probably wouldn't consciously set off on such a quest in the first place (since you don't know there's anything to be gained from it, or if even a destination exists). I imagine a naive spontaneous mystical experience (arising from sleep/dreams, physically stressful situations, accidental psychedelic ingestion, etc) might spark your curiosity and you would try to repeat the experience and figure out how to elicit such experiences at will. Techniques would be learned, more experiences had. I think it would be highly unlikely for a naive individual to really get anywhere in one lifetime without the advice and experience of others. Spirituality is individual, but also to some degree a community project.

heres a quote I really like not sure who its from but it is from the classical age,
"Nature herself has imprinted in the minds of all the idea of God."
just because it took a while for us to write down our ideas about God does not mean that there was no idea of God previous to that. How many humans lived the solitary lives of sheperds, hunters gathers, etc etc. Back then there was no society to distract you from God. He was with you allways. Nowadays we have to have the books and such to remind us of God, but back then living like that you didnt have to reminded or pointed, because you were already where the bible and other books said you should be. At least thats my best guess as to how it was. Peace

Observation and experiment would be the way to go, in my opinion.

Ultimately, they were so lonely and had no society to interact with, so they created an imaginary friend. I see how it is.
 Peace.

I cannot say as I don't know what it is like to exist in this alternate reality of yours.

Oh yea, I always and still consider 'nature' itself as the best teacher in its fullest excellence. It doesn't even need words. Very much can be learned from (i.e.) life, all dependent on the perceiver and the perceived, plain existence, communication and interaction, which itself resolves into a gigantic network of knowledge and wisdom, where and for which we little humans, with our relatively newly arisen consciousness hopelessly try to find words for and try to act in accordance with
