ok i am currently using the set up similar to roadkills set up(i didnt steal ur pic roadkill or i didnt reupload,just copyied and pasted html text)i was wondering about something..if i ad a big enough rummbermaid container...could i put my water in and put my 300 watt submersible aquar. heater in and then set my jars strait in the water,as long as the water isnt too high and set to 86?
would the condensation be too much...i am trying to make more room so i can hold way more jars,like 2 times the amount that i can hold now which is 30
my set up is similar to this:
i want the same set up with out the jars inside another container so i could stack them just in the water? would this be ok?..the water only half way up the bottem layer of jars. will this work ?

No, it wouldnt matter. Just make sure the condensation didn't drip onto the jars and into the dry verm layer on top

I don't mind you posting my picture....lolz
God knows how many times i have had to copy and paste that to show newbies how to set one up.
30 jars per incubator is about right.....for the size I have...which you posted.
I had to expand to 3 of these incubators....lolz
But i like to try different strains....plus i have room for casings on the top.
I also have a large ass furnace room....and don't live with my mommy and daddy...lolz
As far as using a 300 watt aquarium heater.
They weren't made for such a little of amount of water.
The largest i would suggest using a 150 watt....have to have a damn cold room for that even.
But you can try the 300 watt.....and let us know what happens.....chances are it won't cycle right.
They are made to be on almost all the time....With a large heater it will shut down for longer periods of time.....causing the heater to wear out faster.
Believe it or not.....if not call up a fish store and ask them.
I had fish for over 20 years......and a 55 gallon tank full of water only uses a 150 to a 200 watt aquarium heater.
Some people wonder why we use these types of incubators.
Answer is pretty simple.....We live where the Winter is too fricken cold....and this set up works great once you have them dialed in right.

i see... i guess it would help a lot because it is cold here and i always keep them in the room where all the heat comes from to keep them warm....

lolz road...well i dontlive with my mommy and daddy either....but i have a 50 gal. rubbermaid i plan on using..it will hold 6 inches of water and still have room for 2 rows of jars on the shelf above....30 on each row...i have a accurite digi. thermo/hygro and i made my new set up last nite and it is hanging at 86 perfect.....i like to 300 cause it dont stay on ....only comes on about 1 time an hour....but hell i dont care as long as it stays at 86..im not using another container inside the other now....just have my jars on a shelf(old refrig shelf) inside the big one.seems to be working great...less dripping but plenty of heat comning off....thanks for all the help guys...

Definately watch condensation, I ruined a batch of jars that way.
Another problem with setting them directly in the water is when you're waiting for the bottoms to finish, you cant flip them!

not in the water on a shelf right above the water(the shelf on spacers so the bottom of the shelf rests right above the water)
