Instant Mashed Potato Agar - Who's tried it?

Here's a great sounding recipe for agar that I snagged somewhere in this forum. I'm going to try some tonight. Has anyone here used it and if so what were your experiences with it? For example, did you notice that it promoted more-less rhizomorphs than other formulas etc. This will be used for strain selection, not storage. Potato Flake Agar: 5 grams instant mashed potatos 10 grams dextrose [15ml corn syrup or honey] 10 grams agar 1 gram yeast extract [or any grain flour] <--I'll be substituting this with freshly powdered rye grain. 500 ml water [dung extract works fantasic for pan cyans*] -*To make dung extract take 10-15 grams of fresh or dried dung & boil it in 1 liter of water for 5 minutes or less. -Filter off the solids [coffee filters work great]. Toss the soild in your next substrate & use the dung extract in your culture mediums.

Well folks, since no one seems to have any experience with this recipe, I'll make some up tonight. I'll use half with Ps. Azurescens [Thank you! You know who you are] and the other with Ps. Cyanescens. When I have some results I'll update here and give my opinions regarding this agar in general and how it performs for strain selection. I'm pretty confident that it will be a winner with the addition of the rye. This would be a great replacement for regular PDY agar [which I hate making].

I've used roughly the same recipe, except i boil 4 or 5 large potatoes (chopped up) then use the water these were boiled in.

If you use fresh dung, your pH will be jacked because of the ammonia. Potato broth, dextrose, and agar are neutral, or at least very close to neutral.

This thread has been closed.
Reason: No need to bump an old thread because you made really commonplace agar. Make a new thread in general cultivation if you need
