Don't eat any part of an unidentified mushroom, ever.

Agreed, never ever eat even a small amount of mushrooms that have not been 100% identified. There are several mushrooms that can cause intense illness or even death with very small doses. Also, if they are pan subbs, eating a small amount wouldn't have any psychoactive effect so there is really no point. Since you found them in a lawn, it is more likely that you have pan foenescii which can make people ill.

You've got to look for certain details to positively id subbs. first being a black spore print. A spiraling stem, that tapers at the top. Pan foes. tend to have an almost perfectly round cap, where subbs. are just a bit out of round, usually. Read all the information you can find, alot of it right here, see if you can positively id them.

* Yeah, the others sound indicative of stropharia. Again, you got to get a print to get started

It's obviously not a good idea to ever do this - with any of your finds that you have even the slightest doubt about what they are. I don't get what you're hoping to find out by doing that. Even if it was subbalteatus, a small piece wouldn't be enough to produce effects anyways.

What about the oxidation agent metol (Elon by Kodak...)? I've heard that it is an excellent way to quickly test for active alkaloids within any mushroom. From what I've read, mix water and metol 20:1 and dip your stem. Within about 30 seconds the solution will blue if the stem contains psilocybin... Does anyone have experience with this?
