hi, i am not very fimiliar with anything other than cubensis and i wanted to know if there is a link or if anyone knew the differences of overall potency in Psilocybe mushrooms. i know there are MANY variables that can affect the potency of our little friends, but a friend of mine told me that there is a kind, other than Psilocybe cubensis, which are WAY stronger...does anyone know what he is talking about? i have searched, but not sure if i just can't find it, or he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about....thanks

There are several varieties that are more potent than Cubensis. Ones that come to mind for me locally are:
Psilocybe Azurescens Psilocybe Cyanescens

P. Cyanescense (probably thuroughly raped the spelling of that and left it for dead) are commonly mentioned in conversation, whether or not they're significantly more potent I couldn't say, but I seem to remember people talking about them as if they were, I myself haven't done much reading into shrooms outside of cubensis as I don't grow and doubt I'll ever encounter anything else until I start...

There are also a number of psilocybin containing mushrooms that aren't even of the genus Psilocybe.

Yeah, I was wondering about those ones, how greatly do they differ in terms of experience/chemical makeup from the cubensis anyways?

They are roughly double the potency of Cubensis by weight.

Both of them. Some people say Cyanescens are stronger, others say Azurescens, but chemically, I'm pretty sure they equivalent for intensive purposes. They can both contain up to 1.3% psilocybin, compared to the .7% of a Cubensis

yea basically, there are many many mushrooms that are stronger then cubensis. such as psilocybes, cyanescens, azurescens, baeocystis, subaeruginosa, stuntzii, liberty caps and many more that arent the same genus of psilocybes. like copelandia cyanescens etc. ne way cyans and azurs and baeo's all double or triple the potency of cubensis
about the growing part, these super potent psilocybes that i've mentioned are only found from santa cruz cali all the way up to british columbia, but they grown in massive abundance in the PNW, mainly washington. these species almost always grow on wood chips(alder wood mostly) and sometimes very mulched grass opposed to the way cubensis usually grow on cow or horse dung
so to sum it up, your friend was probably talking about psilocybe cyanescens(the wavy cap mushroom) as being much more potent then cubensis, and cyans are a wood loving mushroom growing on lots of woodchips and mulched grasses, as again, opposed to cubensis which usually grow on shit hope this helps peace

I am not sure Liberty Caps (Psilocybe semilanceata) are stronger than cubensis, actually we have them in Sweden as well - the Swedish name is Toppslättskivling - also called 'toppis' or 'toppisar'.

Liberty caps are notoriously unpredictable in % of hallucinogenic compounds... Most are very weak, though some times you come across ones you wish you would have just tried a gram instead of eating a 1/4 oz...!
