Will a insulated cooler work for an incubator?

I cant seem to get the temp up passed 80 degrees. how long will it take to show fuzz at about 75 degrees? I placed my incubator in my utility room because the water heater gives of the most heat in the house plus its upstairs (heat rises) so maybe that will bring up the temp, you think?

Yeah, first you need to get an accurate temp of your chosen location. My thermometer has a high/low...if you have that and let it sit in there for a day or so, then you will know what its high and low is. It's not worth even incubating if your gonna get too high of temps. It is true that colonization is faster at 80, but it still will go fairly smooth at 75. Just make sure you know the temp. Fried myc = time well wasted

if your doing jars and you have a little space wrap up in some tshirts or something of the sort. Might help conserve some heat and up that temp.

putting an insulated cooler near a heat source is a little counter-productive eh? how is the warmth from the water heater or whatever gonna get inside?
if you plan on doing this more than once or twice, save yourself buttloads of time and frustration, and build a tub-in-tub incubator. it will cost you about $25-30 total, take you 5 minutes to set up, and will make things go much much quicker and smoother.

or just a 'heat bomb' inside the cooler. thats what i run. no theres NO water in an incubator unless this is your heat source.
