sounds like a hijacker to me. run the program "hijackthis" and post the results in Code:

Well, spoolsv is a common windows task... perhaps spoolsw tries to exploit a similarity to be overlooked.

spoolsv is the freaking print spooler service.

unless you're trying to print there is no other reason for the spooler to be bombing just because you are on the internet. automan is most very likely correct.

Note the very subtle difference:

Printer spooling service "spoolsv"

The process they described "spoolsw"

Malware tends to hide in ways like that... easily overlooked spelling errors that make it look like system processes.

That is unless the original poster just made a typo.

er, the subject line looks like 2 vees to me and then konnrade is talking with what appears to be a double-you. i continue to agree that it is a rogue process named to appear benign regardless of what letters are actually there.

oh yeah, does look like two v's...

but yeah... I'd check it out in hijackthis.

If you need to delete the executable, I can find you a program named "killbox", it's great for that. It suspends the explorer shell while it deletes the file, which keeps it from denying you access because of it being used. It also helps keep the program from regenerating, but you should disable system restore first.

once you kill the executable create a 0 byte file with the same name and give it read-only properties.
