Looking for High temp control suggestions

I want to build a pasteurization chamber out of a freezer. Using a ceramic heater in the bottom. Does anyone know where to get a thermostat control to kick the heater on and off so it maintains the temps if desire 170F

If I had that fridge I would use it for fruiting, crockpots or dutch ovens work great for pasturization....

You might run the risk of drying out your jars with a ceramic heater. As well as possibly ruing the heater. They are designed to be pulling in cool air and heating it. Pulling heated air through it for an extended period of time MAY overheat it.

I would suggest just doing a heat bomb or two in there.

That thing would make a great FC.

I'd rather make a TiT incubator out of some large rubber maids that could likely hold the same capacity.

LOL!..I totally mis-read that post. I see you want to pasteurize in it... Well I don't think a ceramic heater would be sufficient... to get it to temps of 170 degrees.

To pasteurize that much at a time is kinda ridiculous..but a steal drum and propane burner would do the trick.

Well mabey I need that much at one time?
search agar's posts on this subject. the heater will be sufficient with a qt of water in there to keep it humid. Yeah its gonna be a fc but I need a lot of poo and I like using Uline bags to do it instead of the wet method. I am looking for a heat controller to turn the heater on and off. Even if the heater dies over a few cycles of this ill just buy another one. No biggie

A 250 watt brooding bulb on a dimmer switch will work.

you just have to monitor the rig.
Until you get it to maintain the temp you want.

Freezers are so well insulated.
It doesn't take much.

Salvage a thermostat out of a leaky water heater.

120-130-140-150-160 are the usual settings.

Aquiring 110v may be difficult. Maybe not, I dunno.

what should I do to determine temps inside. I figure ill just use a meat thermometer but is there any way to get a good reading off of one. I only have one with a probe of 6 inches. There is an access port at the top of my freezer in the back where wiring went in I could put it through tape around it for unless there is a better option.

170 is high for a thermostat... maybe out of an old oven?
