its aight, ne way man, im sorry but im 80% sure that your azurs will not fruit next fall. my understanding is that the east coast does not get enough cold weather for psilocybes like azur's or cyanescens or baeocystis to grow, and not enough rain either. and also mushrooms that typically grow in the NW(such as the ones i listed) DO NOT like to much direct sunlight exposure. they like shady damp chilly covered places to fruit, places that the east coast doesnt really have. basically im just pretty sure that NW psilocybes cannot grow ne where but around here simply because of the weather, the weather patterns, and the types of eviornments. i think its possible to fruit these types of mushrooms in your refrigerator, look something like that up, or better yet ask, mjshroomer hope this helps peace

actually, the site I ordered from only has azurs and cyans, which are also a PNW species. I might be out of luck on this one. I have a lot of shady spots I could plant the azurs in, and it gets pretty chilly here from November onward, but maybe I just wasted $35

Does it snow in the winter where you live? If it does, then you should be able to grow azures.
Grow out the spawn bag. Find a shady moist area. Dig a bed and put wood chips in. Spread the colonized spawn around, add more wood chips. Throw some straw on. You can put a thin layer of sandy soil over this and add some grass seed and make sure to keep the area miost (not soaking wet, but moist). Alternatively, instead of covering with thing layer of soil and grass seed, you could cover it with straw and cardboard to keep it covered and moist.
If it fruits this year, they will probably pop up around middle oct to nov. You can overwinter the bed by covering it with a thick layter of straw/leaves/etc.

Dont listen to hooper, he obviously has never lived on the east coast so he doesnt know how cold it can get out there on the NE corridor. MD is in zone 6 which is IDEAL for azure and other wood lover cultivation.
follow this guide that anno has on his site. It's top notch and will help you every step of the way. You didnt waste any money man, you might be fruiting a little later then normal, but you will be able to grow azures where you live

Question regarding this:
Quote:
1. Germination of spores on agar -> Transfer of colonized agar to grains OR Direct inoculation with spores using a spore syringe on either a PF cake or grains
(from fungifun.org azurescens outdoor cultivation site)
The website I ordered this 'spawnbag' from says this about growing:
Quote:
The mushroom spawn bags contain sterile hard wood chips with mushroom mycelium. What to do? (1) Find a good place in your garden, in the woods or a forest near you, a park or somewhere else. The place should be in the shade and nobody should interfere with your little guerilla garden. (2) Buy a large bag with wooden chips from your garden shop. (3) Soak the wooden chips in water and let dry a bit. (4) Carefully mix the chips from the spawn bag with the purchased wooden chips (inoculate). (5) In the ideal place (see 1) you make a bed of about 60 to 60 cm and about 15 cm deep (6) Fill the bed with the inoculated wooden chips. Remarks The larger the bed of woodchips that you have available outdoors is, the better. The spawn can be multiplied by taking a handful of chips from your outdoor-patch to start new ones. The outdoor beds should be about 10-15 cm deep to provide good growth of the mycelium. Leaves and twigs can be placed on top to prevent that the spawn chips become to dry. In summer or dry periods you can water 1-2 times a day (do not drown!!). The mushrooms should appear in late autumn when temperature drops below 10?C. Harvests will expand every year.
Does the aforementioned Step #1 from fungifun apply to this spawnbag, or can I go directly to mixing the contents of the bag with pasteurized deciduous chips, as the site says?
