I found a place by my house that sells 10 lb bags of Organic Hulled Millet for like 8 bucks. A little more expensive then i pay for pen. 40lbs for about $7 but can i use jars of Organic Hulled Millet only?

Doesn't hulled mean the outside of the seed is removed?
That sounds starchy to me.. but then.. I'm not a 'hulling' expert.

im guessing you want UNhulled. theres normally a ton of nutes in the outside layers. also like i posed somewhere earlyer im not sure if you want to go only with one type of seed. this is beucase i would guess that its best having a variety of seeds to get the full spectrum of nuts sorta like getting a ballance diet of grain dairy meat and vegitables.
this by no means is scientific. but it made sense, at least to me.

Foaf tried hulled millet in a half-pint jar. Pc'ing turned it into a solid brick. She still shot it up, but it was so dense it took over a month to colonize a spot the size of a half dollar. You want millet to have the seed coat, it helps keeps the grains from sticking to each other.

Yeah, I agree, shobimono. I just tried some and tossed most of it out because of the starchy mess. I did keep some that was only 10% hulled millet, 20% quinoa, and 70% popcorn. Those jars are colonizing, but not as fast as popcorn by itself.

mogur, i think youll find that the millet will colonize slower since the popcorn as more space for air, yet the more densely colozined millet will provide a better base for bigger fruits, just food for thought.

I got hulled once by mistake. Turned to a solid clump. Might be ok for PC'd PF cakes

Exactly, not good if you want a shakeable substrate.
