Getting cakes out of jars
    #5505199 - 04/11/06 08:03 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hi, I can't seem to get my cakes out of my jar. I've turned the jar upside down and tried wacking it out, but it won't budge. What should I do?

You're planning on breaking it up anyway, right? Just jam a fork in it and break it in half...be sure it's clean first though.
Unless you're planning on casing in which case just whack the back of the jar with your palm four or five times and it should loosen up and fall out.

Keep whacking the back end. It will come out eventially. If not, break it up for casing or slide a really thin object through the middle part of the jar and cake to get some air in to help the cake out. Also try filling the jar with some water to try and lube up the sides a bit.

just stick a knife down the side and push in. maybe go around the full edge to get it loose. you'll most likely bruse the cake but no real harm. just make you you don't think its a contam later ahah.
good luck

Edit;
maybe try filing the jars up with water. dump out that loose verm first. leave for 12-24 hours. now your cake is hydrated and ready to pin and hopefully now also unstuck from the jar.

well, I used some forks around the sides but some pieces came off, is this going to really bad in the long run?

I think i'm just going to case the rest of them. If I use verm/coco casing mix can I get away with just microwaving the substrate or do I have to PC it. The only problem is I have no PC.

Riiiight. Well anyway, would it be ok to just dunk my jars without sliding my cake out?

yes. why take the cakes out and dumk them all together when you can just fill teh jar with water the lid holds them from foalting aswell. take them out after the 12-24 hours and youre set. also u can nuke case mix. some people don't even do that but i figure whats 5 extra mins right.

I was gunna suggest what skeletor said. Just case the BRF in coco/verm (sterilize the casing mix by nuking it in the microwave), no PC needed.
