LC - maltodextrin?

I went to a home brew supply today to get supplies for LC?s.
They didn?t have dextrose to my surprise, so I got maltodextrin and light dried malt extract. Will this combo work for good LC?s? I did a search and none of the results pertained to LC?s.

I would suggest using equal amounts of light dry malt & karo, rather than use the Maltodextrin.


Maltodextrin is a sweat, easily digested carbohydrate made from cornstarch. The starch is cooked, and then acid and/or enzymes (a process similar to that used by the body to digest carbohydrates) are used to break the starch into smaller chains (3-20 chains in maltodextrin). These chains are composed of several dextrose molecules held together by very weak hydrogen bonds.

Maltodextrin is used for sweetening and body in brewing since it does not ferment with beer yeast. Since brewing yeast is similar to LCs, I would not recommend it. Straight malt extract is fine if you cannot find karo/glucose/dextrose.
