Oh to be 19 again...

It was warm, sunny, and utterly beautiful out today. So, I decided to go for a bike ride.
I meandered my way through several neighborhoods and I found myself in the "college part of town". There were college kids all over the place because it was a nice day. I saw barbecuing on front porches, pick-up basketball and football games, frisbee flinging, beautiful girls everywhere, and young people just having a good time in general. I immediately got an intense desire to go back to college. This whole scene that was playing out before me looked incredibly fun and I wanted to be a part of it. To anybody who is 18-21 and they are reading this....these years are the best years of your life. Do not waste them.
As I exited the college part of town I realized something; I'm old. I'm 26 going on 27. Those care-free years are gone and I can't get them back no matter how hard I try to relive them. I now acutely understand why middle-aged guys get sports cars during their mid-life crisis years.

See the difference? It's all relative dude...I'm 36.
Every single day of your life is going to be 'the good ol days' eventually....never look back.

you can still do most of that stuff with people your own age?
I know I do... my best years will be 27-30 when I finally realize I'm an adult.

The "Oakland" neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Carnegie Mellon University and University of Pittsburgh are right next to each other there. There are about 40,000-50,000 college students meandering about at any one time.
I swear...it was like a Playboy Playmate convention in that neighborhood today.

Of course you can, but life becomes different. Your life changes when you "grow up", start paying bills, don't live in an area full of young people, etc.. It seems as if everybody my age is getting married and having kids. Care-free times seem to be fewer and fewer as the years go on.

bills suck, but don't you kind of like having that responsibility? knowing your independant? working a days worth of work, and coming home to your own place? cracking a beer, and lighting one up knowing you earned it?

Fuck yes.
Cheers to that.

funny you should post this here. i was among those you witnessed having carefree fun today in oakland. did you happen to cruise past flagstaff hill? you probably rolled within 100 yds of me.
i am lucky, no classes on tuesdays, chilled there all day tossing discs with my hippie friends, some chronic n some yingling, on this beautiful day.
we dont discriminate by age tho. there are def some old heads on flagstaff that i can relate to and are enjoying themselves way more than your typical pitt student, and i am 19. i can't imagine you feeling uncomfortable or "old" while we jam out the dead with acoustic guitar and makeshift disc-drums...peace.

No shit! Were you at the Cathedral at all today? There were lots of people playing frisbee over there. I was on Forbes, Mckee Place, and all of those other streets in the southern part of Oakland.
Actually, I don't smoke and I'm not a hippy, but I like hippies (I encountered a lot of them at the Oregon Country Fair over the summer). We should chill sometime.

Drink booze, work out, ride bike, do stuff with this girl I'm kind of seeing, go to school, etc.. I have a pretty full schedule.

Hm....good question.
I dunno. Seeing youth frolicking about reminds me of how I am getting old.
