Fruiting Chamber Questions

I was wondering if this setup would be ok, a 60 quart rubbermaid box with perlite on the bottom with 8 cakes rolled in verm. I was just wondering, can I lay the cakes right on the perlite or do I need some sort of barrier? Will this setup be able to maintain the right humidity and do I really need to buy a hydrometer or can I get by with winging it? Also, I don't have a drill to make holes in my rubbermaid box to fill with polyfil. How essential is that to maintain good airflow. Also, what happens if the box isn't aired out during a 24 hour period, how bad is that for the shrooms? Sorry for all the questions!

I use wax paper as a barrier foild reflects too much light and causes pinning under the cake, you dont need a hygrometer I didnt use one for a long time, the pearlite will maintain the humidity.

First off i would recomend you lay the cakes on the lid from the (i assume 1/2 pint) jar. No polly fill holes are nessary for he tel your trying. Your best bet is to use a fish pump setup for humidity

Thanks, the wax paper won't block the humidity from reaching the cakes?
Also, instead of a drip shield, what should I do to fight excess water drops?

Oh, thanks, I'll use the lid, does that remove the need for a barrier? Sorry if these questions come off as retarded.

I would do the fish tank pump, but I do not have a drill to make the holes in the side.
