so i got a small package from holland with some azurencens spawn today, its a small bag filled with small woodpiece all covered in mycelium. its still snow and frost outside so i was thinking about waiting some before i made an outdoor bed. so i was wondering, can i store this bag in my fridge or something for a while. maybe half a month. also i dont know where i should buy woodchips but i live in a forrest full of espacially Betula trees, mostly Betula pubescens. i belive this wood is ok for azures? can i just cut up a tree in chips and use it or do the wood need some kind of preparation.

The spawn should be fine in the fridge for at least 3 months. Just about any deciduous broad leaf hardwood should be fine.

why keep it dormant in the fridge when you could start your little baggy into a small tub of woodchips, get a larger amount of spawn ready for your outdoor bed while you wait on the weather?
just a thought

thanks,
yes i was thinking about that too, i just need to cut down a tree and make those chips first. but about that, what ratio is recommendet mixing the spawn with. i weighted the bag with spawn and it weighted 23 grams so its not too much. maybe mix it in a 1:10 ratio first indoors and when i have more spawn i make the outdoor bed.. i dont know, either way i need to make woodchips first. i was thinking about going and cut down a tree now and let it defrost a little before i make the chips. i was wondering a little about what is best for mushroom spawn., fresh chips with all the juice in them , or dry them completly and soak them in water to regain moisture. I belive trees has more "juice" in them now in the wintertime. any thoughts on this?

i personally have no clue, could you go to a garden center and buy some woodchips instead of chipping up a tree yourself?
