Flukers hygrometer accuracy

Just wondering about others experience with flukers,
This is the story... I stuck my flukers hygrometer in the FC (60qt. latchtop) and without even putting my humidifier on, the bitch said I had 95-96% humidity...
To get into more details... I am using 50/50 poo/straw as substrate that is about 4 inches high in the FC (which leaves about 8 inches of air space from top of substrate to lid)... the temp is between 74-76
Now I heard of casings creating there own humidity, but this seems out of this world to me... 95%+ humidity.
Should I believe that I dont even need a humidifier for my casings? All I need is FAE. My problem is going to be how will I bring the humidity down once the shrooms are fruiting... lol
If if have any comments, please reply... especially those experienced with casings and/or with flukers hygrometer

Check this - you can calibrate your hydrometer in this way. For example if that test gives you a reading of 85% when you were expecting 75%, then you know from now on to mentally subtract 10 from any reading you get...
You might not need the humidifier, and more FAE will bring the humidity down since it won't build up as quick... as will when the action in the casing increases... the growth uses moisture from the case, in turn drying that out, in turn sucks humidity from the air...

I guess I just got one of the few that were actually decent. Mine lasted me for at least 6 months, and mine DID go past 95%.

Flukers is crap, the temp min max in a TIT! was so off it's ridiculous. I think at one time it read 40 min and a max of like 140 or some crap. In a tit with the $60 150 watt heater set for 80. And no the power wasn't off during the night nor did it get even close to that cold or that hot. I didnt even mess with the RH.

I thought you might have gotten it from a local pet store. Oh, well, at least they're cheap and you're not out much.

To answer one of your original questions, yes the casing itself will usually provide it's own humidity in a rubbermaid type FC. You don't need a humidifier. Just keep the casing layer moist. RR
