fertilizing casings?

Has anyone ever experimented with "fertilizing" or adding some substance to increase nutrients, when casing? Would this make the casing a haven for contams?
If you have tried something and it has worked plz let me know, otherwise I am gonna try something myself and risk a casing or two. But it may all be worth it!

casings are not meant to have nutrients in the casing layer... the layer is just supposed to provide mositure, and a place for the myc to knot up.

yes, I know casings are not supposed to be another layer of substrate, but maybe add another thin layer of fertilizer on top of the broken substrate beneath the casing layer to give the mushrooms some nutrients to feed on while growing?

the mushrooms feed on your substrate. this is why you have one. then they stop feeding and grow. nuts in your casing is asking for contams. its sorta like haveing a pf cake with no lid and no dry verm layer.

DO NOT FERTILIZE CASINGS. I tried it once with fetilized soil and NO PINS. waste of time.

Is what you can do is add a litlle bit of food to it, I like to add some Coir, about 10% by volume, it helps the MYC grow up through the casing a little faster.

It's because too many people misuse terminology by calling a bulk substrate a 'casing'. A casing is a non-nutritious layer placed on top of a bulk substrate.
Fertilizer is for plants. It won't do squat for mushrooms. Some people use 'SAC' per stamets by placing a small amount of coir into the casing mixture. Personally, I do not. Peat/verm is my fav. RR

Thank you so much RR for clearing up that for me, it was very confusing when people were referring to poo being used as a casing, threw me for a loop =)
