Holy F*** These buggers are huge! Pictures added

So, a couple of weeks ago a spawned some pf cakes to some Hpoo. I left them well alone in a dark closet for a couple of weeks or so, hoping that it wouldn't pin (before I spawned the cakes some shrooms grew in vitro)
So, today I make the casing to case the stuff and put it into my terrarium and I see these monsters. The whole surface of the three trays I made are full of small shrooms and there are a half a dozen monsters. They are all longer than a pencil, thicker than three fingers and the caps on some of them are as big as my hand!!!!
I am seriously freaking out. It's amazing
I have taken pics but have no hosting so I can't post them.
PS: What should I do now, should I carry on with the casing?

sounds awesome. you can use shroomery to host your pics btw. at the top where it says "Welcome Nibin" under that it says "my pics". you can ul them there.
if i understand, you cased them, then put em in the closet? as soon as you case you should fruit, or wait only like 5 days tops. anything more than that and chances are theyll fruit on their own just like you found out.
post the pics!

Nice work. I would say they are on the medium to medium-large size though. Stick around for awhile and you'll grow some shrooms a lot bigger than that.

well, nearly as big as my hand then. I just tried and an inch of finger overlaps over the edge of the bigger ones cap. It's quite curved so it's bigger than it looks.
What suprised me is the fact that the shrooms didn't get any light and I was told on this same forum that there would be no pinning it they got no light.

I don't really know how I'm going to dry them though...
I wish I could hae printen one of them, that would have been nice, a print as big as a beermat
What with it beeing my second grow and all, and the fact that I had been quite an unsterile idiot while spawning (trying to prove a little theory of mine that 95% of the sterility issues are innecessary) I just did not espect this

Well, keeping in mind that I am a medical student and so have a very good understanding if sterile techniques :P and after a lot of thought, I decided to test the actual necessity of total sterility of the processes involving shroom cultivation as I am convinced that the rubber gloves + mask+ hairnet+ hepafilter+ bacterial soap + lysol+ gamma rays+ ingravity that some people seem to say are necessary to grow shrooms without contaminations is beeing a bit too enthusiastic. I'm pretty sure that a clean house (as clean as your mum would like it to be, not clean as in "no days old pizza visible, but maybe some under the sofa" , well cleaned hands and nails, clean utensils and something to cover your hair should be enough for most procedures involving shrooms. The rest is overkill. It's like getting rid of the weeds in your garden with a chansaw.

Agreed. Of course, that has been the consensus on this forum for quite some time now. There is always going to be loose cannons though.

I used to feel this way. Thinking that the majority of sterile techniques where seemingly overkill. Until I started getting contamination....and kept getting it. Then I got pickier and pickier. You will learn what works and what doesn't... Like for example I don't even touch Lysol anymore. Just70% isopropanol alcohol to sterilize surfaces.
A still air glove box makes a world of difference for making clean prints and syringes and is pretty much a nessesity if you do G2G.

Hey man, I have to say why do you have the saran wrap covering those casings? You should take that off when you fruit them... Your keeping too much c02 under it, thats why you only got like 4 pins.

Exactly. I had them covered in saran wrap in a dark closet hoping that they wouldn't fruit until I had time to case them but fruit they did.
Now i'm drying the big ones in front of a hot air fan. My only problem is that I don't have a big enough container to put them in with the silica gel to dry them fully so I'll have to break them.
I have also printed one of them and it's going along fine.

Using a glovebox like this seems to have solved my contamination problems in anything that requires it (innoculations, printing, agar work, etc.) My house can be fucking trashed like it is all the time and i still have an island of sterility to work with for the tricky steps.
I havent had too many problems with contams in Spawning except for trying to go too deep or just not using enough spawn.
nice looking shrooms man. keep it up
