I can't tell if this is even a fungus

This is in my backyard, growing on mulch.
Can anybody tell me what it is? :P
I find it kind of weird how this stuff all of a sudden appeared throughout the course of 3 days.

Y'know what sucks? Another colony appeared less than 5 feet away from this one right here. If I took another picture from the same spot, of the same location, you'd know what i'm takling about. What's even worse, is, that the colony basically doubled since 5 PM (5 hours ago)

I dont know about the shrooms but it looks like in your pic that your compost is turning blue and is probably active.....what would happen if you picked one.....brought it in house.....and took really clear, well lit pics especially of the gills (underside cap)and others ?.......1000% impossible from that pic.....at least for me anyway.....

That looks like a slime mold. Interesting little beasties. Harmless. They're just breaking down organic matter in the mulch.
Happy mushrooming!

Shroomydan, I think you're right. Our dog is now mainly outside for the majority of the day, and by the end of the day, we dump the water out and refill it. My mom recently admitted to dumping it in the mulch, so we figured it was that. Thanks for the information everyone.
Edit: well, just for fun, I scraped some of it off, and put it into a picante sauce jar that my mom kept in the cupboard. I'm going to try to see how long it takes to culture some of it out. Just as a for-fun experiment

Hm, interesting. Good luck with that experiment. Quite a strange looking fungus

It's actually not a fungus. After a bit of research, turns out dog vomit slime mold is a protist.
