So do you re-use your 50/50 mix of verm/perlite or do you just use it and throw it away with the poo cake?
And have you ever tried setting the cake directly on the greenhouse shelving rather than on the 50/50 mix? I wonder if it would fruit from the bottom since the shelving isn't solid? I think I'm going to experiment with this.

Judging by her pic I'd say yes. You can't get a fog like that with a cool-mist.

Yeah, that's what I thought from the way the pic looked, but I've never used a humidifier before. So, I wasn't sure what kind it was.

Yup , I re-use it . If it gets too dirty , I'll soak it in some bleach water .
Yes , I have a US directly in my cool mist . I turn it on , the CM fills with fog and is then dispersed nice and evenly throughout the GH . No extra hook-ups or piping

Thanks . I thought it was pretty neat .
One of these

inside the CM

put the top on

and you're ready to go . Also cuts down on the mess of the splashing water the US seems to generate

Question do you ever get back pressure problems, also how often do you have to refill it ?? Ever think about making a reservoir for it..

=( I guess HC doesn't like answering my questions.

j/k
I'll simplify my question(s):
Since this thread was posted, what are your differences in yield between using the same amount of substrate in a tub versus cake.
If yes, how are the subsequent flushes affected? If no, do you just get smaller fruits but more of them, is this preferable to you?

Never had any problems , but I've since added more output lines in the cool mist . I fill it every 2-3 days .

Do you mean uncased in a tub? If so , I've only fruited a couple uncased subs in a tub . The pinsets weren't as prolific so the fruits tended to be bigger

The first flush , and second, tend to have more fruits which are smaller . The third and fourth will be fewer fruits but much bigger , cased or not

Id prefer to just grow one 1,500 gram mushroom , of course , Lot less work.
It can take forever to harvest and clean all those babies

HC who often are you running your humidity set up? Do you have your US running at different times than the cool mist or simultaneous? Also what stain do you use and is it an isolation? And many congrats on such awesome results!! That's what i would like to do. Sorry about the questions that have answers I did some research and found some of the answers I wanted. Although I didn't find an increment on the time for the US in your cool mist. and I believe you that I found you like amazon, yes?

I just thought I'd bump this beautiful thread to show others that casing is not 100% necessary.
Growing without a casing layer can be quicker, easier, and cheaper, and still produce good yeilds.

I think that was already the consensus around here. Each time someone talks about casing, someone else pipes up and says it's not at all necessary (with cubensis).
