Strain for newbie.
    #549973 - 02/13/02 11:06 AM (23 years, 3 months ago)

Does anybody know what the best PF strain for a newbie like me would be. One that grows fast and is most resistant to contamination.

Thanks,
=)
Jeff

Hi,
I'm pretty new, too, but I thought I could share my expereince. For the first time I tried, I chose the "B+" strain. The reason I did is because it is pretty hardy, likes a range of temperatures and growth mediums, and is rather forgiving of mistakes, and I made tons of mistakes!! By all accounts I could have killed my cakes with my ignorance, for a variety of reasons. Naturally, there is a HUGE drawback to this robust strain: Slow Colonization. I am still waiting to see the fruits of my labor while other jars inoculated w/ different strains just days ago are colonizing at a rate 40-50% faster, at least! I have worried and hedged over these incredibly tardy jars... they are at least 3 weeks behind "normal"...Could be a combination of things creating the slow growth, some my error also, I'm sure. Anno, as always, is wise and quite correct. It is impossible to saywhat the right strain for you is. Some good ones for newbies like us that make mistakes are: "B+", "Treasure Coast"(on recommendation from SporeWorks-I love those guys!), original "PF", and "Hawaiian"(the last 2 on recommendation from another friend on this site  ) I have all of these in the works now and can say I haven't killed them yet! Good Luck!

AFOAF has just started too. S/he has B+, Hawai'ian, and Puertos going. So far, the B+ is colonizing MUCH faster than the Puertos for whatever reason. It's too early to tell for the Hawai'ians -- s/he just started those yesterday.

Also about to try some mazatapacs, just to compare.

all brf/verm, 78-84 F

Go with the B+ for sure. Its a semi-quick colonizer, however it also fruits like a mofo.. Its really easy to fruit too, and you'll be happy with the results.

B+ is first choice, second would be equador.
