Are these photos actually in-vitro cobweb?
    #5494400 - 04/08/06 08:01 PM (18 years, 12 days ago)

I've been assuming this stuff is cobweb (and therefore KILLABLE!)... I've heard cobweb grows really fast however, and this stuff doesn't grow much faster than the mycelium. However, I've also heard cobweb doesn't usually grow in jars, so maybe it's slow growth is because the environment isn't ideal?

Anyway I have photos now, so any help identifying this stuff would be appreciated!

it is a contamination, the solid line seperating it is a dead give away.

Do you happen to know if it's cobweb in particular? The thing is that cobweb can apparently be fairly easily controlled and killed with peroxide, so the jars COULD be saved IF I knew what this stuff was. Thanks

its cobweb, and no, you cant save it.

you cannot inundate a culture with H2O2 in vitro.
it would lead to eventual bacillius contamination and culture spoilange.

also, the cobweb is already ALL THROUGH the jar, and the MYC is pretty much dead. and if not, it will be in an hour.
cobweb is an AGRESSIVE killer and consumer of mycelium.

it can be controlled on SOME casings, (though not usually)
and its easily killed on agar with a spray of peroxide. this will allow the myc to recover, but kill all spores and dactylium structures.

What about this jar. They have been going about 30 days and they slowed or staled. It seems they are wet or the myc is thin. So I flipped them today. Is it ok or cobweb? Pics are hard to tell. Thanks
