The peat you want will be brown in color and usually comes in 1-4 cu. ft. bundles. Sphagnum is what you want but the Irish may work just as well but I've never used it myself so GL.

"Sphagnum" is the genus name for the type of moss that grows in the bogs where they harvest 'sphagnum peat?. As the bottom layer of moss decomposes, it forms peat. The moss never fully decomposes due to the fact that it?s under water and unexposed to O2. Sphagnum peat is considered the best due to its prime stage of decomposition and the structure of the sphagnum moss itself. The plant has numerous pores, which are still present in the peat, allowing it to absorb a good amount of water. Other types of peat, such as Irish peat moss don?t contain as much sphagnum (made up of grasses and such) and is at a different stage of decomposition, making it less desirable because it doesn?t perform as well as pure sphagnum peat, and it doesn?t last as long... You should have no trouble finding a nice bag of 100% sphagnum peat at any big box home supply center.
