Im thinking some kind of hypholoma or psathyrella. All these descriptions are from memory so some stuff may be off.
Habitat: Wood chips/ woody debris. Lamellae: Light to dark Brown, adnate and adnexed, crowded. Pileus: Conical, reddish brown fading to pallid brown/tan, hygrophanous. Stipe: White, smooth, fragile, moist, hollow. (sometimes with straw yellow or light brown colouring overlapping white in some places) Flesh: Thin, light brown Spore print: Black (maybe dark brown)

The statement that they are hygrophanous makes me think they are Psathyrellas. Try snapping a stem in half and see if you can hear it.

just noticed this older I.D. request......saw another I.D. request yesterday of the same species from Melbourne......was thinking same genera possible (Psathyrella and Hypholoma) too when I saw other thread with the kill pics.....but close up on the gillys blurry but by his last post he gave up on the spore print idea.....rarely need em but kinda wanted a spore print for this one.....preferably with a clear close up....first one that jumped out at me on that thread and now this one was maybe non rusty spored Conocybe.....but the other threads shrooms gill color were lookin more Psath. or Hypholoma like and not typical Conocybe unless one of the less typical non rusty spored Conocybes which why I wanted a print for this instance.....in his pics extremely shiny as poss Hyph. but he used a flash and were poosibly wet out.....now I see same shroom in your thread not so shiny more like Conocybe and Psath......like I say looks like classic Cone Heads to me at first sight.....maybe that other (spore print close - up) will come through.....How ago you say these ones popped?.......heres the link to the other more recent thread from balzac Melbourne, Aussieland, Earth.....wasnt Akroyds name Balzak in the movie "The Cone Heads" ???.....never mind I dont know.....

EDIT: heres some pics I found of some verified Conocybe.....these with more typical gills

And the active Conocybe smithii

the stem on some of the fresher specimens makes a light crunch sound. I tried looking for psathyrella species, but i could find none that resembled these do you know any species similair to these?
They do look very similair to those conocybes. These were found on the 8th or 9th this month april.

Spore print color can easily narrow us down to genus. That is why we require spore print for ID.

P. hyrdophila and P. conopilea can look like those.
Identifying Psathyrellas to species is next to impossible for amateurs. You need a microscope and good skills for using it. And lots of patience.
