grain to grain transfers
    #5498385 - 04/09/06 11:06 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I was wondering what, sterility wise do I need I have a hepa filter is it sterile enough in the flow of the hepa filter to transfer grains. Is a still air glove box better? Any help on the subject would be a big help.

A properly working flow hood would be the best to have due to the ease of working with your arms free. Of course I'd done many G2G in my glove box and I think I had one jar contam on me before...but I don't even seal my lid half the time...or turn off my furnace fan.

one armed glove bags would probably work too. Just put your jars inside of a new garbage bag (that you can see through) put on a glove wipe it down with alcohol stick it into the end of the bag and put an elastic band around it.

You could do it in an REALLY REALLY well cleaned bathroom. Or other small room with not air movement really, no fabric (curtains, carpet) and all surfaces wiped down with bleach, alcohol or Lysol. Oh and it's a good idea to wear a mask to prevent you from breathing on your work.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the oven tek.

Basically the reason it doesn't work that well is that the hot rising air will also pull air from around the oven up with it. Air from the floor...lots of mold spores.

i dont belive in the oven tek myselfe, but i did succes with it before. g2g transfers with rye grain, and very low contamination ratios, but it could be only luck, not the oven:)
peace

Why would the oven tek be better than doing it in front of a hepa filter.
