i just got a 21 quart all american pressure cooker for $30!! its supposed to retail at like 150-200... anyways, i dunno how exactly its supposed to work, so im asking!
heres a link to one.,.. http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/921.htm
questions are, does it need a weigth to pressurize like my old PC? also, the safety valve thing, i dont quite understand how it works or if its in good condition. anyone familiar with this PC?

Is it NEW new? or is it Used new?
If it's NEW new. lol... then you should just look for a user manual. I'm sure you could find one using google.
If it's used that is different. You defiantly need to be more careful..especially if you got it for 30 bucks..that's ridiculously cheap. Make sure all the parts are there and in working condition. You still should find an owner manual for it. And take it for a test run before using it to sterilize something. (whether new new or old new LOL)

Does it have a toggle release valve, or a weight?
Toggle releases pressure around 22/24 psi.
Post a pic of the lid, if possible.

i got it at a local flea market. they guy had a number of pretty good PCs. its in really good condition, i just dont think he knew what he had. thanks for finding that pdf. i looked all over and couldnt find it.
ill post some pics later. the manual i just dl doesnt seem consistant with what ive got here, though its the same model and everything... where the vent pipe should be (the thing that vents the steam taht you put the weight on top of to regulate pressure) there is a little valve that can be switched from open to closed. where the safety release should be (little rubber gasket that pops out if the pressure is too high) there is a metal plug with a hole in it. these 2 parts are removable, but i wonder what they do. they arent the factory parts listed in that manual....

It sounds like you're describing a sterilizer valve in place of the weight. If this is so, congrats! You're in better shape.

whats the chance that i have a sterilizer instead of a PC? like this one http://www.homestead-products.com/steriliz.htm
the one i have doenst have a model number or anything on it anywhere... i just measured the height and compared it to the specs on some websites to determine which it is... its got some trays and stuff inside. dangit i need to post pics lol. when i get home ill do it.
also of note: the pressure gauge has the area between 20 and 30 psi as the "green" area. this seems to indicate taht this is the psi it should be at, which makes me think it is a sterilizer rather than a PC.

I just bought an AA with that same toggle valve thingy (a mod said I should replace it and the over pressure plug before I started using it, but I'm having a hard time finding the valve thingy and thus haven't used it yet), and I'm not even sure how to replace an over pressure plug, and once I do that I still wouldn't know how to use it with the thing. I know that when it's up like in that pic it's open, and when it's like bent down it's closed, but I'm not sure what that means or how to use it.
Did some searching. These threads were informative: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post5478057 http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post3127293
The second one has nice instructions.

and im still not sure why i have a metal safety plug thing in there instead of a rubber one...

tc
thqanks for the link. i still have 3 questions though.
 1) is mine a pressure cooker or a sterilizer? it doesnt have a model number so i dunno.
 2) why is the safety release plug metal and not rubber?
 3) why does is the pressure gauge green at 20 to 30 psi? shouldnt it be red?
also, when im done PC, can i flip the release valve to depressurize or do i have to wait for it to cool?
i just got it going and stable at 15psi. works awesome... assuming that the gauge is accurate.

Probably not a bad idea to replace that safety release valve. Contact Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry for the part number. While you're at it, ask them what you have!
I think it's a sterilizer by what you've said. But wtf do I know?
Just call them and ask them yourself, rather than relying on some mushroom growers!

Their number is near the bottom of the page.

aa sells products with different model numbers as pressure cookers and as sterilizers. one website said that they work totally differently, though i doubt thats the case. ive seen in the sterelizer descriptuions taht they have safety latches, and i havent seen taht in the pc descriptions, so i think this one is a sterilizer... ill call taht palce tomorrow and see.
oh yeah i forgot that lol. i was too busy doing the research, i forgot taht the tag said that.
