Hey everyone.I have one of those mini green house seed starter things with the clear plastic top.Well,I have a few different things in it,delospermasan pedro,p.torch, catnip ect...
I have noticed that in some of the little "chambers" or whatever they are, have green mold in them,on top of the soil.I noticed the mold in a few of the "chambers" that had cactus seedlings in them,I am worried about the cactus seedlings. They are only a month or so old.
Should I transplant these into some sterilized soil?Should I just scrape the green mold away?
It looks morre like algae than mold. Some type of fungus or bacteria,I dunno.
Any ideas?Thanks

i have the same stuff. it looks like algae to me, and it doesent appear to threaten the seedlings. i know for sure it aint mold cause i used fungecide to keep the dampoff at bay. it didnt show up untill several weeks after germination, im not sure if that makes a difference but it seems pretty harmless to me.

Thanks allot.Yeah,as I said in my post,it looks allot like algae.Dark green and slimey looking. It isnt fluffy at all like most mold.It also took a few weeks to show up.
It worried me a little when I lifted the clear plastic lid and i smelt a musty moldy smell, then I noticed the "algae"
I would assume its just regular blue/green algae(pond scum shit)
Thanks for the feedback

This answers my question on whether or not the Jiffee chambers can be used, but what did you use to grow them in? Regular soil? Pellets? What?

Yes they work well.I have germinated catnip, datura, delosperma, heimia and the cactus. For the non cactus seeds I used regular potting soil with some extra perlite. For the cactus I used some regular soil mixed with course sand.
I also cut some holes in the clear lid,so there will be some sort of gas exchange. And since I have a variety of plants in it I also let it sit with the lid off at least ocne a day for any given amount of time incase any of the plants dont like long exposure to tons of humidity.

Just a guess: will the pellets hold too much water, or are they too acidic....just wondering why they are a bad choice.

I dont think they are a bad choice.
I wouldnt use them for cacti, but they are fine for other seeds.Im sure they would work with cacti as well though.

....Think I should expirement with it on a a few seeds?
How long would it take before any noticiable growth....was noticable? Like, before I could see that the seed has roots/is sprouting?
