Basidiomycete Beginner. Can anyone help?
    #549613 - 02/13/02 01:37 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

This is my first attempt at a culture. I've read most of The Mushroom Cultivator and checked out a lot a techniques posted on this site. I just directly innoculated some rye grain in quart jars. I pressure cooked the jars and tried to make my innoculating room as sterile as possile. I put the lids on right side up and sealed them.

My question is: Do the jars need air exchange soon?

I bought some filter disks, but was wondering if I should wait a while before putting them on or if they are even necessary. I'm storing the jars in a plastic storage container lined with Aluminum to block out light. I have them in a room that's kept at about 70C. Should I modify anything in this setup? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
