Longterm shroom effects

Just had a question: Was wondering if anyone knew where I could find some info on whether shrooms have longterm, flashback effects that people associate with hallucinogens? I've read some FAQ's posted on this site, but they weren't real helpful.

I can still see the fibers of the bathroom rug dancing in the slow-moving current of murkey water. It has always been a comforting thing for me and now doesn't seem to want to retire. Otherwise, perfectly normal.

As far as I know, Mushrooms really don't give you flash backs. The worst that could happen would be some HPPD, which if you don't already know, is permanent altered or enhanced perception of "reality"

Many people I know have a permanent effect with mushrooms that doesn't leave no matter how long you are off them. It's the ability to make things seemingly move when you stare at them long enough. Before I took mushrooms, I used to sometimes as a youth stare at the wall for along periods of time to meditate. It would NEVER move. It might sort of vanish if you stare perfectly still because one's eyes can become so fatigued that they don't deliver the image anymore, but it would never move. Now if I stare at certain types of patterns, most notably low contrast patterns in low lighting, they shift and move. I know others who have been off LSD for over 20 years and still have that same illusion of movement.
As far as anything else, I don't notice it. I don't believe they have affected my ability to learn or IQ for certain. After a really terrible trip, one can have a flashback in the same way that any person with a trauma can (desert storm vets for example), but they went away in time.
There are other lasting effects like changes in one's belief system that might be altered from taking mushrooms. I know one guy who became a vegetarian after an insight he had with a trip, but in that capacity, the mushrooms were nothing more than a catalyst for resolution for some thoughts that person probably already had before he tripped.

Just like Blue Helix... Right now I am looking at a cup that has Sierra Mist in it and I can make it move back and forth if I look at it for a few minutes. Never could do that w/o shrooms... also when I'm in a room with a light on (not powerful) I always see yellow spots running around for a bit... That is w/o looking at the light. So sensitivity to light may be long term effect. Just speculating from my own experiences.

i recently had an IQ test done to see if my use of psychedelics has lowered my IQ. in fact since the previous IQ test i have gained 2 points (ive hear conflictng reports that your IQ goes up with age naturally). its nominal considering that i was already in the top 6% but i see no evidence from my experience that it could potentially lower you IQ. everyone who takes shrooms or lsd is going to have residual visual occurrences imo. at least everyone ive hung out with who trips on a regular basis

This one time.......I was convinced I was a glass of orange juice and had to be institutionalized for 5 years.
LOL, but seriously, I know of no longterm effects outside of HPPD. I'm sure if someone was intensely unbalanced, a hellish shroom trip might send them into inner torment for a long time, or periodically afterwards. Without counselling, that is, or the brainpower to make sense of it.
So far I only notice an increased sense of wellbeing and wonder. Nice side-effects if you ask me.

is HPPD common or does it occur rarely?

ever since i huffed a few times. i kno, b4 anybody harps on me on how deadly it is, i already know all that. thats why i have never done it again after those 3-4 times and never will ever again.. but honestly, after that my vision has been screwed up.. its kind of like a pixilization im looking at, its stronger in darker areas. it most intenst at night outside. The best way i can describe it is like a fuzzy tv, kind of like with static but not too intense really..

yup i get that same fuzz ever since doing shrooms, kinda gets fuzzing when reading text too. and the tails after moving objects thing. ill sit at a red light and stare off, and every car that passes in front of me streaks just like i was tripping.
its very faint and i swear it is something that happens to everyone they just aren't normally aware of it. tripping feels like it made me aware of it, and now its always going to be thier. its never been anything that causes any problems or real bother, so i dont really see it as a bad side effect. some times ill be out at a park with my girl and we will just sit and watch the trees, and we will both get stuck in it like we are tripping.

I haven't done shrooms since February, and in between last september-june I experienced some symptoms of HPPD to a degree. Walls that were one color would look kind of splotchy and i would randomly get fuzz in my vision. Sometimes if i look at something of 1 color i see lighter "blobs" that kind of shift. However, they stopped at the beginning of this month. They were tolerable and never interfered with my normal life. I just kind of forgot about it, and only when I was like, o shit i think I have HPPD would I notice things like that. Also, after I took acid (done it twice) ever since, sometimes when I close my eyes, after 5 seconds or so, I see a large square of these circle type things that look like this, but are rainbow colored.: http://www.flickr.com/photos/simulation/3905720/
everything except for the thing I got from acid has gone away. And the acid was more recent, so I would expect it to be gone eventually. (I know it was from the acid, because I almost always saw it when I closed my eyes while tripping)
