I'd say volume. Verm is pretty light, at 50/50 volume I could still stand to up the verm content.

Volume and remember 50/50 is not a coir ratio it's a peat ratio! Coir has it's own ratio's 60/40, 70/30 in favor of the verm for best results if your going to use coir as a casing layer (not recommended) which BTW is quite inferior to peat in it's casing capabilities.

The coir freaks are gonna slam you for saying that, but I agree 100%. coir does make an excellent substrate additive however. RR

No doubt! But this is something I've seen a hundred times over and thats an understatement! It can be used in very small amounts in conjuction with peat with good results. When talking about a casings health were talking overall health in many aspects not just from a single flushes view.

Coco coir's problem is that the mycelium likes it too much. It likes it so much I am not sure if it's eating it or what, but it colonizes it like a substrate. You want a casing that has very high water-holding properties but also that the mycelium has considerably difficulty going through although eventually will. Ideally you want the casing to finish colonizing a little before the pins form and through the surface, not over top of it.

Yes, I am trying it right now in a Uni-Gro Cactus Mix which has many meals in it. I will have a write up in the grow logs in the next week and a half. I think it's going to be a home run, but you never know until the fat lady sings.
